ARTSPOWER PRESENTS: MY HEART IN A SUITCASE Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at 10:00 am Woodstock Town Hall Theatre Grades 4-8 Performance: 55 minutes Curriculum Connections: Family Relationships, Historical, Literature-Based, Values-Based ArtsPower National Touring Theatre’s production of My Heart in a Suitcase is based on the autobiography written by Kindertransport survivor Anne Lehmann Fox. While every student in America learns about World War II, not many people remember the Kindertransport. In 1938 and 1939, 10,000 Jewish children living in Nazi occupied Germany, Poland, Czechoslovakia, and Austria were permitted to leave their homes, via the Kindertransport, in order to find safe haven in England just prior to the outbreak of World War II. They were forced to leave behind their parents, their homes, and everything they knew and loved; most of them would never see their mothers and fathers again. Anne Lehmann Fox was one of those 10,000 children. She left on the Kindertransport in December of 1938, when she was just 12 years old. Years later, she would record her experiences in the book entitled, My Heart in a Suitcase. Credit: Based on the book, “My Heart in a Suitcase.” Written by Anne Lehmann Fox. Copyright © 1996. Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school...again. And that’s the least of his troubles. Lately, mythological monsters and the gods of Mount Olympus seem to be walking straight out of the pages of Percy’s Greek mythology textbook and into his life. And worse, he’s angered a few of them. Zeus’s master lightning bolt has been stolen and Percy is the prime suspect. Now Percy has ten days to find and return Zeus’s stolen property and bring peace to a warring Mount Olympus. But to succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the true thief: he must come to terms with the father who abandoned him; solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of betrayal by a friend; and unravel a treachery more powerful than the gods themselves.
