Jumpstart, tested a large class of high school seniors on personal finance skills. 57% of them flunked. Learn how to be smart now, so you don’t end up in a situation like mine. Take it from me—credit cards are junk! Do NOT write out the intro or concl. on the Power Pt. or on your slides ONLY on the outline. However, you should SAY what you wrote during your speech. Many people forget that. If you have an A, you must have a B. If you have a 1, you must have a 2. An outline is required and Outline means OUTLINE--NO Web or Map (You may use Inspiration to create it.) You may NOT bring up your outline--only NOTE CARDS w/ key words and phrases. MEMORIZE your intro and concl. You write it out only to PLAN what you say. You may jot down key words to remind yourself if desired. However, do NOT read to us. TALK to us. PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE—The more you practice, the more comfortable you will feel. You must also practice it several times to ensure the time is within the allotted range. The grading is NOT that easy on this so BE Prepared! A Power Pt is required – specific slide requirements given If you have an A, you MUST have a B. If you have a 1, you MUST have a 2. This is not my rule but a general outlining rule. Make sure you LABEL the parts of your outline like in the intro and concl. The intro and concl should be in sentences (on the outline only) and the body should be in KEY WORDS and PHRASES. The first letter of each line should be capitalized. You should use INSPIRATION for your outline. SEE SAMPLE OUTLINE PROVIDED INSPIRATION RECOMMENDED: IF you can’t finish it in class, you can print out what you have and finish it in Word and then staple the two pages together. No problem. Word has an outline feature too. Whatever means you use is fine, as long as the formatting (numbering, lettering, spacing, etc.) is like the sample provided. TOPIC SELECTION: Do NOT select a topic you’ve researched or presented in another class. Also we are doing a speech on an inspirational person in our research unit. So you may want to save your favorite inspirational person for that unit.
