You can also access telephone interpreting services directly by following the instructions available on the "Language Interpreter" cards available in the Medical Staff or Patient/Guest Relations Depts. Face to face interpretation can be accessed through the volunteers listed on the help screen on UHIS. n determine the patient's need n document the patient's need n request interpreter services JCAHO NEWS JCAHO will be using the Tracer Methodology when conducting future site visits. This Methodology, which replaces the traditional unit visits, follows the course of a patient’s care from the time of entry to the hospital, across the continuum of care, wherever service was rendered. For example a patient who enters through the ER will be “traced” to every area of the hospital that provided care or services, i.e., ED - Unit - Radiology - Operative Services - Pharmacy - and other supporting disciplines such as Respiratory Care. There are four types of tracers 1. Patient Care 2. Medication 3. Infection Control 4. Environment of Care COMPLAINTS ---SUGGESTIONS In an effort to improve communication between physicians and hospital administration, the hospital has instituted a Physician Complaint/Suggestion Program, which will be administered by the Medical Staff Office. While the Patient/Guest Relations Department remains the first course of action for circumstances regarding patient situations, the program has been created to address other situations. For example, if you have a complaint or suggestion regarding a system process, a computer system, the hospital webpage, parking, cafeteria, communication, etc., this program is the forum to address your concerns. While we may not be able to resolve every issue, we can assure you that we will bring your issues to the attention of the appropriate party and we will make every effort to address and resolve your concern. The Patient Care Tracer: There are three ways to access this program: n allows the surveyor to assess relationships among disciplines, functions, processes and systems HOTLINE n identifies potential vulnerabilities in the care 444-8248 process n enhances consistency in evaluation n provides an opportunity to observe direct care and the processes involved in providing care EMAIL joyce.klein@sunysb.edu n provides an opportunity to interview the patient and or family n affords an opportunity for the surveyor to interact with the providers of care wherever the patient received services IN PERSON SBUH, MR 119 CONGRATULATIONS! SAVE THE DATE! Approximately 25% of Stony Brook’s 2004 medical graduates matched with Stony Brook University Hospital residency programs. Nov. 6 163 residents and fellows attended an orientation program prior to beginning their residencies/fellowships on July 1. In response to suggestions from the 2003 incoming residents, the orientation program included a hands-on hospital computer training session. This year the residents were required to complete part of the orientation program on-line. Several departments and services created presentations which were available on the internet. Once completed, residents were able to send electronic attestations to the Medical/House Staff Office. As a result of the on-line program, 100% of all residents were trained in various modules. This information will remain available on line as a reference source for the house staff.
