However it is facing several issues related to the transport of goods. Italy is generally affected by imbalance of transport modes (The system is heavily dependent on road transport. The road transport absorbs nearly 131 billion of tons per kilometers in 2009 that represents 62% of the total), Road infrastructures are congested and mobility demand is increasing. These factors lead to Road safety & Environmental concerns that the Province can address by developing and promoting its Inland Waterway System and by improving the safety of goods road transport itself. Data sets used as baseline are: police data and data from the Province (see SOL Situational Assessment). B) Management Programming This RS campaign is in accordance with the already existing (national) RS strategies or programming as that’s also the case of RS Strategy developed for Eastern Lombardy and dedicated Action Plan for the Province of Mantua Structure Around 10 people were involved in the project management. ALOT conceived the campaign in cooperation with the Province of Mantua, the Municipality of Castiglione delle Stiviere (Mantua), FAI – Truck drivers federation (local branch in Brescia) page 2 Road safety training for truck drivers and experts from the University.
