Spring St. Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time June 14, 2015 1 A Message from Tony Crescio Peace Be With You! As the newest member of the pastoral team as the Youth and Young Adult Minister at St. Katharine Drexel Parish and the Tri Parishes of Dodge County, I would like to take a brief moment to introduce myself. Being brought on as a member of the pastoral team here for me feels both like being sent out on a mission to serve God’s people as well as a homecoming of sorts. I grew up in Randolph, WI, and so I am no stranger to Beaver Dam and the surrounding area, even attending Mass at St. Katharine Drexel Parish on occasion. My life is a bit of a tale of two lives. In my late teenage years and early twenties, I strayed far from God’s church, leading me to the only place which I now believe it could have led: disaster. In December of 2009 I was the driver of a one car accident which took the life of my best friend, and subsequently served 28 months in prison as the result. Unsurprisingly, this was a life-altering event for me, and by the grace of God my life is much different now than it was then. That event and subsequent experiences which accompanied it, inspired me to live a life which served others instead of myself, eventually leading to a decision to pursue a degree in theology. That decision finally saw its end a few weeks ago in May when I graduated from Marquette University with a degree in the same field of study. Living these two lives has taught me very valuable lessons which I pray God will show me how to best use as I serve his people here in Dodge County. I pray that God inspire the time we spend together, and make us docile to his will, so that together we may personally and communally grow towards fulfilling that purpose for which he has created us. I look forward to meeting you all, and serving you in any capacity that I can. Your servant in Christ, Tony Crescio La Mensaje de Tony Crescio La Paz Sea Con Vosotros! Tu siervo en Cristo, Tony Crescio SAVE THE DATE AUGUST 30, 2015!! The “ramp door” will be the only one open. This schedule is being put into place because of recent problems that we have had. Please understand that we would appreciate everyone leaving Church as soon as someone comes to lock the doors. The doors do not always catch in the locks due to swelling and contracting with the heat of the sun. We regret that these things must be done, but it is for the safety of our parishioners and facilities. Thank you for understanding! 6 St. Katharine Drexel Parish Students at St. Katharine Drexel School participated in the Archdiocesan Safeguarding All God’s Family Poster Contest. This is part of the ongoing work to “educate and empower the youngest members of our faith community by teaching them how to live respectfully”, said Archbishop Jerome Listecki in a letter to schools . Adam Wendt, 4th grader at SKDS, earned special mention for his poster. He received a certificate and a rosary. A very special thanks is extended to the Chad and Amy Abel Family (Nate in 6th, Easton in 4th and Aspen in 2nd) of Northwoods Paper Company for helping the SKDS Family as we continue our ongoing education story. They have gifted our school with $12,000 which will fund our technology plan to purchase 30 Chrome Books as well as the accompanying professional development package and tech support to enable us to use it fully as we start off our school year in August. What an exciting adventure for us as we pursue our desire to inspire our students for the future. Saint Katharine Drexel School recently hosted a Jump Rope For Heart/Hoops event during their gym classes. Students learned about their own hearts and how to stay healthy. Money was raised during this event to help children affected by heart conditions and for initiatives such as: fighting childhood obesity, cutting-edge research, keeping PE in schools, better nutrition in schools, and teaching CPR in schools. Together, SKDS students raised almost $5,000, our highest total ever! This was done with the help of many students, but especially our top fundraisers. The sister team of Cameran and Sienna Schraufnagel raised $1,000 and Jonah Ratajczak raised $1,000.01. Many students also jumped in honor of a loved one. This year we dedicated our yearbook to the “Guardian of the Playground”, Mr. Jim Firehammer, who passed away this spring. He clearly impacted the lives of our students. At the 8th grade graduation breakfast, the yearbook was presented to Mrs. Mary Ann Firehammer. Then, the students planted a tree in Mr. Firehammer’s memory. It is near the James Street entrance of the school. This is the 8 th grade graduate gift to SKDS for 2015. We know Jim is lovingly watching our “kids” from “realms on high” just as he did when he walked among them on the playground and in the lunchroom.
