Spring St. May 24, 2015 1 A Message from Fr. Mike Pentecost 2015 The good news in the church has been very exciting lately. The Holy Spirit breathed on the church last Pentecost through our Archdiocesan Synod, so that may explain what is happening. Our parishes recently made the discernment to hire a full time youth and young adult leader for our parishes. Through the work of dynamic volunteers and staff, we have a dynamic group of young people who are having fun while really sharing their faith and really praying. Now it is time to grow these great groups. The adults are being more plain in their discussions about faith. They have set the goal to bring in training from our Archdiocese in the year ahead to effectively share their faith and follow-up with inquiring people. Our day school stimulates active learners who are inclusive of all people. The school wishes to find ways to keep itself accessible for families with less financial resources. The initial meetings for sharing our priests between St. Katharine and the Tri-parishes of St. John the Baptist in Clyman, Holy Family in Reeseville and St. Columbkille in Elba have gone very smoothly. People wish to skip the drama part of sharing a pastor and keep single minded in ministry. All of this progress is with the backdrop that church attendance rates in our country are generally declining. A growing number of people are either unsure if God exists or if belief requires belonging. What we are seeing since last Pentecost is that we feel moved by something bigger than ourselves to unite in creativity and authenticity. May Pentecost 2015 continue to bring our church alive and in the process offer paths of new life to all people around it. Let us pray as well for all veterans especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice in serving their country. May we become inspired by them to risk our lives for something bigger than ourselves! Fr. Michael Erwin Wanted: Volunteer Gardeners: The Dodge County Food Pantry at St. Vincent de Paul is starting a garden, to raise vegetables to add to our summer/fall food boxes. You can sign up as an individual, family, or group (those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult). Please leave your name and phone number at the Dodge County Food Pantry (885-3392) and we will get back to you. We also accept produce from your garden if you have excess! Youth and Young Adult Minister St. Katharine Drexel Parish and Tri-Parishes of Dodge County are looking for a Youth and Young Adult Minister. This position is a professional member of the pastoral staff, reports directly to the Lifelong Faith Formation Director. S/he is responsible for the development and coordination of programs, in collaboration with the parish DRE, which are centered in the Gospel, prayer and service, which guide and empower youth to full and responsible participation in the life, mission and work of the parish faith community. This is a full-time position which averages 40 hours per week, including evening and weekend hours. More details regarding this position can be found on our website, stkatharinedrexelbd.org, and the archmil.org website.
