ADVANCED DISTRIBUTED LEARNING –
THE MISSION:
■ The NATO SCHOOL Oberammergau‘s Advanced
Distributed Learning (ADL) office supports modern
training methods and develops online courses to
prepare resident course participants and School staff
to use emerging concepts and capabilities for joint,
multinational and interagency operations worldwide.
■ The ADL office works closely with NATO SCHOOL
Oberammergau Academics and subject matter experts
to develop online courses in support of the School’s
resident courses. The ADL office also performs activities
within the joint training and knowledge environment,
including facilitation of eLearning course production,
Member’s Portal training and support for the use of
collaborative environment technologies, international
eLearning efforts, outreach, and project planning.
NATO SCHOOL eLEARNING:
The NATO SCHOOL Oberammergau ADL office offers over 40
online courses in support of the resident curriculum.
The School’s eLearning Programme focusses on a two level
approach:
R FOUNDATION COURSES
R LEARNING ENHANCEMENT COURSES
FOUNDATION COURSES support the School’s residential
instruction. Each Foundation Course is specifically tailored to a
resident course, allowing students to gain basic information or
refresh awareness on the resident instruction to be received in
Oberammergau. Foundation Courses aim to prepare students as
active and informed participants during courses discussions
and syndicate work.
LEARNING ENHANCEMENT COURSES offer broader NATO
topics of interest, expanding accessibility to Alliance interests
such as Combating Trafficking in Human Beings.
Additionally, Learning Enhancement Courses offer professional
development subjects such as the NATO Procurement and
Contracting course series.
COLLABORATIVE LEARNING –
NATO SCHOOL MEMBERS PORTAL:
ADL trains and supports the communities of practice
hosted on the School’s Members Portal. The portal is
an online collaborative environment, which enables
interactivity and allows members to create and find
information.
Additionally course directors use the portal to support
their students’ course preparation by offering online
read-ahead packages and exercise scenarios which are
used later in the courses.
