Date and Time: Monday, November 30, 3:30 – 6:00 pm
Location: Kraft Theater, Belmont Hill School
Based on the Greek tragedy by Sophocles, Jean Anouilh’s modern adaptation tells the story of
Antigone, a young woman who bravely defies Creon, her uncle and King of Thebes, so she may
give her brother a proper burial. The production will be performed in modern dress with an
abstract set as the backdrop to this timeless tale of civil disobedience.
Audition Facts for Antigone:


Please arrive near the 3:30 start time if you can; however, you are welcome
to show up at any time during the 3:30 – 6:00 time frame to audition.
If you cannot make this audition date, please email Ms. Robison to
arrange an alternate audition appointment.

Memorizing and performing a short monologue from the script is helpful
if you wish to be considered for a lead role, but it is not required. All
actors will read from the script. No prior experience required, and
auditions are open to all Belmont Hill and Winsor School students in
grades 9 and 10.

Our FIRST read-through with the cast will be the next day after the
audition on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 4:00 – 5:30 at Belmont Hill.

Rehearsals will typically be Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, 4:00 –
5:30. Additional rehearsals may be added if it convenient to do so.


Cast of Characters:












Chorus – a male or female character who acts as narrator and interpreter
of events and characters’ emotions. Chorus may be played by more than
one character, and /or play some of the smaller roles as well.
Antigone –a headstrong, confident, rebellious, and emotional teenage girl
Creon – The King and Antigone’s uncle.
Ismene – Antigone’s sister; cautious, logical, tries to reason with Antigone
Haemon – Antigone’s fiancé and Creon’s son
Eurydice – Creon’s wife and Haemon’s mother
Nurse – an older woman who takes take of Antigone
First Guard - The three guards are Creon’s henchmen, and they are
excellent acting roles!
