“Antigone” Unit Assessment
● I can ANALYZE a text and EXPLAIN how themes and central ideas develop and change over the
course of a text.
● I can ANALYZE the structure of a text and EXPLAIN how structure impacts meaning.
Our unit assessment for “Antigone” will take place on December 2 (B) and 3 (A). This unit assessment will
involve writing formal, paragraph-style responses to two questions (see below). You will be working
individually (no group work). You may use the script and your notes, including your approval rating
assignment.
YOU MUST ANSWER THIS QUESTION:
How does the Chorus’/Choragos’ opinion of Antigone and Creon change during the play? Use specific
references from your approval rating chart to support your claims, but DO NOT retell the story. Whom do you
believe the Chorus approves of more strongly at the end of the play (Antigone or Creon)? Why do they approve
of this person more? Whom do you approve of more strongly after everything that has happened (Antigone or
Creon)? Why?
In addition to the above question, ANSWER ONE OF THESE TWO QUESTIONS:
1. When do you believe it is necessary to disobey? Explain your answer using a famous historical example.
Then explain how Antigone would answer this question AND support your answer by using a quote
from the play.
OR
2. What is the difference between a sin and a crime in “Antigone”? What is an example of a sin in
“Antigone”? What is an example of a crime in “Antigone”? Which does the play believe is worse?
Why? Do you agree with this message? Why or why not?
