Getting powerful data on how your students learn doesn’t
need to be difficult. In fact, it’s easy. Just have each of your
students read and answer each question in the LSIS booklet.
Collect the booklets and mail them to our certified scoring

reports — at three distinct levels:
1. Teacher-Level Reporting – Tools for the Classroom Teacher
For every student who takes the LSIS, the teacher will receive a detailed
Teacher’s Report – everything a teacher needs to know about how the
student learns best, the critical factors affecting the student’s success,
and how to motivate and actively engage the student in meaningful learning.
The Teacher will also receive…
• A Classroom Profile showing the learning style distribution among the class.
• A copy of the LSIS User’s Manual showing how to put the data from the
Teacher’s Reports and Classroom Profile into powerful practice.

Building Powerful
Student Learning Profiles
The Learning Style Inventory for Elementary
Students (LSIE)
The Multiple Intelligences Indicator
No recent model or theory has had a more profound
effect on how we view student differences and potentials
than multiple intelligences. Now you can build accurate
student intelligence profiles easily with our new line of
self-scoring Multiple Intelligences Indicators. Use the
Multiple Intelligences Indicator to:
DISCOVER YOUR LEARNING STYLE!
1. GET READY
Now it’s time to find out the learning style you use most by completing a fun activity. Turn to Pages
6 & 7. You will see twelve parts. Each one has a statement and four choices lettered A, B, C and D.
Read each statement and think about how each of the four choices describes your preferences.
You will use the rating scale below to describe your preference.
2. RATE YOUR CHOICES

The two best models for understanding differences and
developing student potentials – multiple intelligences
and learning styles – come together in the Learning
Styles/Multiple Intelligences Checklist™. Simply
observe a student and check off the behaviors he or
she exhibits to develop a comprehensive learning profile.
The observation format of the LSMIC is ideal for working
with students of all grade and ability levels, including
pre-readers and ESL students. The LSMIC includes a
planning template, guidelines for working effectively with
different styles and intelligences, and a handy learning
styles and multiple intelligences desk reference chart.
A convenient folder design facilitates the collection of
student work and ongoing profile development.
You’ve Got Style!
Illustrated story and activity books that are a
fun and effective way to teach young students
about learning styles.
This series was designed to address the challenge of
teaching learning styles to primary students. Through
engaging narratives and accompanying pictures, children
learn about their own styles and become sensitive to the
styles of their classmates. Each storybook contains fun,
interactive activities and classroom applications. (K-4)

Students learn best when
their parents are involved
in the educational
process. By teaching
parents about style,
you enable them to
appreciate and understand the need for a
variety of classroom learning techniques. Parents become
less likely to question innovative teaching methods and
more likely to contribute in ways that are complementary
to the goals of your school and classroom.

administrators, and Thoughtful
Classroom trainers, the allnew Thoughtful Classroom
Portfolio Series makes the
important work of bringing
high-impact, research-based
strategies into your classroom,
school, or district easier than
ever before.
Each Thoughtful Classroom
Portfolio consists of…
• A convenient folder design, including a pocket for samples of student
work and a tab for easy filing.
• What is This Strategy? introduces
the strategy or technique and clear
goals for implementing it in the
classroom.
• Planning the Unit or Lesson lays out
a simple set of planning steps and a
short classroom vignette illustrating
the strategy in practice.
Ideal for administrators looking for cost-effective
professional development tools; school, grade, and
department teams and self-directed learning clubs interested
in raising student achievement; and individual teachers seeking to expand their teaching repertoires, the Thoughtful
Classroom Portfolio Series will help you get results
quickly—without breaking your budget.
• Strategic Practice provides a
reflection guide for evaluating
and fine-tuning lessons.
Thoughtful Classroom Portfolios can be purchased with
or without training, and are subject to volume discounts for
school-wide and district-wide implementation. Current
titles include:
• Examining Student Work shows how
to assess student work and provides
milestones for evaluating your own
comfort level with the strategy.

Changing Minds
What Works in Schools:
Translating Research into Action
by Howard Gardner
In his newest and most provocative book
yet, Howard Gardner focuses on an
intriguing, but thoroughly unexplored
psychological mystery: How and why
do people change their minds? Gardner
identifies seven powerful factors that
impel or thwart significant shifts from
one way of thinking to a dramatically
new one. Whether we are attempting
to change the mind of a nation or a
corporation, our spouse’s mind or our
own, this book provides insights that can
broaden our horizons and improve our lives.
Robert J. Marzano
Synthesizing 35 years of research, this
book illuminates the school factors that
most influence student performance. Use
the book’s research-based survey tools and action
steps to identify your school’s strengths and weaknesses
and prioritize your options. Implement a clear plan for
improvement by learning:
• Which instructional strategies really work
• Why data is a critical component to school improvement

“Styles and Strategies for Teaching
Mathematics is the ideal tool for differentiating

student achievement data identifies specific
learning gaps, this book is my go-to reference.
It has taught me how to become a better
problem solver and how to help teachers help
all students in our math classrooms.“
Styles and Strategies

Today’s math teachers hear many calls:
higher standards, differentiation, realworld applications, non-routine problem
solving, the list goes on and on. Math
teacher, professor, and researcher Ed

Differentiation poses a special challenge in math. Yet we know that if
we fail to pay attention to students’
needs, interests, and styles, their
learning will suffer.
The Math Learning Style
Inventory is the first learning style
instrument designed specifically for
math students. Built around the six
most important variables to student
success in math, the MLSI includes:
• Individualize instruction and reach your most
at-risk learners.
• Build a classroom profile showing the style
tendencies among all your students and then
differentiate instruction by selecting and rotating
strategies accordingly.
• Help students become more reflective, multifaceted,
and self-directed learners and problem solvers.
New!
Includes:
• (30) copies of the Math Learning Style Inventory –
Develop each student’s math learning style profile
• an interactive student’s introduction to learning
styles in math
• a visual representation of the student’s learning profile
• (1) Styles and Strategies for Teaching Mathematics
(Middle School or High School edition) –
Research-based strategies organized by learning style
• a reflection activity that helps students maximize learning
assets and minimize weaknesses
• (1) User’s Manual – Instructions, tips, and suggestions
for using the kit with your students.
• a self-scoring 88-item instrument
• Durable nylon portfolio bag – carry-all for the entire kit

“Our recent Thoughtful Mathematics workshop was a tremendous success. By focusing on the application of learning styles
research to the teaching of high school
mathematics, our secondary math and
special education faculties were able to
develop multiple approaches to teaching
rigorous mathematical concepts. The presenter and the materials were both firstrate and were very well-received by all our
teachers.”
You’ll learn:
• A set of research-based strategies that have the
greatest impact on students’ mathematical achievement.
• A manageable system for differentiating math instruction
based on the four mathematical learning styles.
Richard C. Hollinshead,
Assistant Superintendent,
Black Horse Pike Regional School District
• A set of instructional tools that build problem-solving
skills and actively engage all students in learning math.
• How to assess your own and your students’ mathematical
learning styles and how to use style data to coach
students to higher levels of mathematical achievement.
• How to design standards-based tests, assessments, and
instructional units that meet the needs of all your students.

Teaching What Matters Most:
Standards and Strategies
for Raising Student Achievement
One of the greatest challenges
every school and every educator
faces is encouraging and
accommodating a full range of
student diversity while simultaneously promoting a uniformly
high level of academic achievement for all students.
by Harvey Silver, Richard Strong,
and Matthew Perini
Crafting a set of standards that is at once manageable,
attainable, and good for all students has been elusive.
Based on 10 years of research and work in more than
300 schools, the authors offer four standards to help all
students meet the various standards dictated by states,
regions, and districts:
So Each May Learn shows
beginning through advanced educators in all content
areas how to implement a holistic learning program that
integrates both learning styles and multiple intelligences
into their instructional, curriculum, and assessment
practices. Published by ASCD.
• Rigor: helping students make sense of
challenging texts and ideas
• Thought: helping students become adept
users of powerful learning disciplines
The book includes:
• Diversity: helping students understand
themselves and others
• Numerous classroom examples that illustrate
effective practice
• Authenticity: helping students apply what
they learn to the real world
• Activities and organizers to help readers process
ideas and analyze their current practices
In this book, the authors go beyond simply showing what
each standard looks like in various school settings. They
provide research-based teaching strategies that can help
all students meet each standard along with assessment
practices that allow schools and teachers to respond
thoughtfully to the diversity of students’ needs.
• Instruments for readers to identify their own
styles and intelligence profiles
• Planning templates for designing integrated
lessons, assessments, and curriculum

Reading to succeed is no secret. With
Discovering Nonfiction, you’ll help students
bring the world to their fingertips in an age
when knowledge is power.
by Robert J. Marzano
Everyone knows that students
from disadvantaged backgrounds,
who are not well prepared for
school, have the toughest time
making the grade. But what hasn’t been so clear is what
schools can do about it…until now. Here at last is a book
that spells out how to overcome the deficiencies that
hamper the achievement of so many students.
Discovering Nonfiction:
25 Powerful Teaching Strategies, Grades 2-6
by Harvey Silver, Richard Strong, and Matthew Perini
Prepare Thoughtful
Readers Now!
More than ever
before, teachers
must respond to
rigorous standards
mandating students
to read, write, and
think at higher levels.
Reading with understanding is no longer
an option–it’s a prerequisite to lifelong
success. How do you
get students to read
to succeed?
Drawing from 35 years of research, Robert J. Marzano
uses detailed vignettes to provide you with the tools you
need to rescue low achievers and boost the academic
performance of all students:
• Eight factors that determine the success of a
sustained silent reading (SSR) program
• A five-step SSR program extending through grade 10
• Eight characteristics of effective vocabulary instruction that enhance academic background knowledge
• A six-step process for vocabulary instruction in the
major disciplines
• The vocabulary terms that are critical to students’
success in every academic subject
In Discovering Nonfiction, teachers will explore
powerful strategies for teaching nonfiction. You’ll learn
how to plan a curriculum that increases students’ reading
proficiency and excites them about the world of information. They’ll become thoughtful readers whose comprehension of text and data will hone their problem-solving
and decision-making skills.
