ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF DISCIPLINARY SYSTEM
1. Discipline at Columbia (ACTS)
Columbia International College’s discipline policies are
designed to create an environment in which all students can
develop a sense of security, a sense of purpose, a sense of
belonging and a sense of personal worth and competence.
At Columbia International College we believe that discipline
teaches lifelong skills. Discipline is directed at the student's
behavior, never the student, and is based on:
•
Consistent and firm guidance
•
Logical consequences that are directly related to the
misbehavior
•
Students following rules because they are discussed,
understood, and agreed upon
•
Teaching students to internalize self-discipline and to
accept, take responsibility, and make restitution for their
actions
Consequences of inappropriate behaviour are clearly outlined in
the student handbook. These policies and regulations are
enforced fairly and uniformly and consistently without regard to
nationality, creed, colour, or sex.
ACTS is a Unified Discipline System
Columbia International College is comprised of Academic
(where classes are held), Residence and Administrative buildings,
we consider the College to be a single entity, with the same rules
and regulations applying equally throughout all the areas of the
College. Therefore, a student who violates the rules in a
Residence has violated the rules of Columbia International
College and is treated in the same manner as a student who
violates the rules in an Academic or Administrative building.
There is only one Disciplinary System and it covers all the areas
of the College.
2. Attendance Requirements
Attendance is compulsory. Students may only miss classes for
reasons of sickness, supported by a letter from a doctor or the
staff nurse-practitioner or residence hallmaster or
parent/homestay parent acceptable to the Principal; TOEFL
test or with prior permission. Continuous extended absences
from school without documentation acceptable to the principal
could result in expulsion from the College.
3. Residence Curfew Hours & Privileges
The rules and regulations of the Residences apply to everyone
in the Residences whether they are a resident or a visitor.
Furthermore, all students are required to abide by all the rules
and regulations of the Residences, regardless of age, gender or
program of study. Non residents are not permitted to stay
overnight in the Residences or have Meal Plan privileges.
Furthermore, residents (except graduates) who cease to be
registered full-time students at Columbia International
College will be required to leave the Residence buildings
within 5 days.
4. Uniform and Grooming
Students are required to attend classes properly dressed in
Columbia International College’s Uniform as per uniform
policy. All uniform items worn must be clean and
maintained in good order.
Hair must be its natural colour, neatly groomed, no longer
than collar length for boys. Shaving of the head in patterns
or in part is not permitted. No braids for boys. Hair
extensions for girls must be same colour as natural hair.
No excessive jewelry or body piercing jewelry for any
student; no earrings for boys.
Students here for 9 weeks or less must wear black dress
pants or skirts and a white shirt or white polo shirt with no
insignia.

6. Payment of fees
