Two Hospitalized After Hit and Run Crash
WASHINGTON COUNTY - - Tonight
(7/13/06), Washington County Sheriff's Deputies
responded to a serious injury crash involving a head-on collision. The driver of one of the
vehicles fled the scene in a third car, leaving his car behind. Two people were transported to
OHSU; one has life threatening injuries.
On Thursday, July 13, at 8:33 PM, Washington County Deputies were called to SW
Burkhalter Road about one- quarter mile west of SW Rood Bridge Road, on a high impact
vehicle crash. While they were en route to the scene, Deputies were informed that the driver
of one of the cars had left the scene in a third vehicle that was not immediately involved in
the crash.
Deputies arrived and confirmed that the driver of a 1985 white Chevy Impala had fled the
scene in either a tan Chevy Luv or a tan Ford Ranger. Witnesses reported that the suspect is a
male in his twenties to thirties with dark hair.
The driver of the other car, Danny Calderon, 21, and his passenger, Russell Moody, Jr., 22,
from Aloha, were both transported to Oregon Health Sciences University. Mr. Calderon
sustained non-life-threatening injuries and Mr. Moody sustained life-threatening injuries.
They were in a 1990 Nissan Sentra at the time of the crash.
The Washington County Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team (CART) was called to
investigate the crash. SW Burkhalter Road remained closed during the investigation. Some
preliminary results from the investigation suggest that the suspect was driving west on
Burkhalter attempting to pass another car in the east-bound lane. This is a "no passing" zone
marked with two solid yellow lines. As the suspect reached the top of a hill he struck Mr.
Calderon head on as Mr. Calderon traveled east.
The Washington County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public’s help in identifying the
suspect and the driver who took him away from the scene. If you have any information call
the Sheriff’s Office at 503-846-2700.
