Persuasive Speech (Fur Farming)

Fox Farming Speech:
Introduction:
“If we can't be cordial to these creatures' fleece, I think that we deserve to
freeze.” This poetic quote by Marianne captures the view that I take upon the
topic of fur farming. Some of you may ask, what is that?
Well, fur farming is basically the manufacturing of fur coats, using the skin of
millions of foxes, minks, and other furry creatures, that live on the fur farms.
OK. Imagine yourself cramped in a cold and dark wire cage. No food, no
water, living in this filthy place your whole life. For you, this is home. Then,
one day, you are suddenly ripped from your cage, endlessly beaten to death,
and excruciatingly skinned alive, followed by a stabbing electrocution through
the anus. You are then tossed like garbage into a pile with others who had
suffered the same fate.
This is how horrific the fur industry is and unfortunately, this kind of thing
happens to foxes on a daily basis. All in the name of fashion. But why should
we care? Using the power, I have learnt about the condition of foxes and the
production of fur coats, and I feel that it not only affected me emotionally, but
it affects ALL of us physically as well.
Reasons:
#1:
Although fur clothing can last for a long time, it requires high-maintenance.
The effort and cost in order to keep fur clothing in shape is very high.
You may take interest in such fashion, but the expense can be deadly for the
wallet. It can take a lot of time just to clean and trim the fur.
Cleaning an already purchased fur coat can cost a minimum of 150$! It may
seem like a fashion statement, but you would have killed 10-20 foxes by
buying that coat.
A constant cold temperature is also needed to keep them in proper shape for
long periods of time. It’s just too much work!
#2:
Furthermore, there are environmental effects that can be brought up. A
Michigan State University study states that “the United States fox industry
adds almost one thousand tons of phosphorous to the environment each
year”.
Do you know what this pollution has the potential of accomplishing?
Excessive amounts of phosphorous from fur farms can lead to water
pollution.
Phosphorous is used in fertilisers, and when it flows into rivers, it can cause
the deaths of MILLIONS of marine and plant life!
Air pollution can also be caused by the continuation of fur farming. The
stench of animal manure can have an adverse effect to the surrounding
ecosystem.
We are destroying our world for the future, just by choosing the fur side.
#3:
Lastly, fur farming must not be continued due to the cruelty that we portray
towards them. Are we not human beings? We talk about being kind to one
another, and make speeches about living in harmony, and saving the world.
Does living in harmony include the deaths of millions of foxes for our own
satisfactions?
Think about it. Foxes are related to the dog family. Does anyone here have a
dog? How would you feel if your dog was stripped clean of its fur,
electrocuted, and mistreated to such a horrible extent?
The enclosures which they are kept in are based more upon the length of a
PERSON’S ARM than the needs of the animal! This business is a black mark
upon the history of mankind.
Solution:
If you don't like pictures of animal cruelty being posted on social media, you
need to help stop the cruelty, not the pictures. You should be bothered that its
happening, not that you saw it. You may ask, what can you do to help?
Well, PETA has created a petition called “The Pledge To Be Fur-Free” which
anybody can sign online, located on their website. Their aim is to let
consumers everywhere know the truth about fur and its origins. Just a name
and email need to be provided, and an email that you verify will be sent!
If enough people complete this, it can really bring a change in the lives of
thousands of foxes across the world. It can improve the health of the planet
for your future, keep the world peaceful and intact, and you don’t have to
spend as much money!
Are you an animal lover but still like your share of fur clothing? Well your
satisfaction does not have to be the cause of millions of deaths! You can opt
for faux fur, or fake fur.
Faux fur is a luxurious alternative to real fur, which feels exactly the same and
will keep you warm as well. The costs of storage and cleaning are also quite
lower than real fur, with no use of cold storage needed for faux fur. Less fox
blood on your hands!
Conclusion:
Foxes should not be killed for their fur! Just cause they are helpless, doesn’t
mean that we can exploit their very body in that manner. The cruelty that they
face is too painful to even think about.
Unfortunately, fur sales are on the rise, since the fashion today includes parts
with fur, hidden amongst all the clothing. If more people learn about the
condition of foxes in fur farms, I believe action can be taken, by signing the
petition, and/or only buying faux fur coats.
Thank you for listening, and always remember: Fur is only NATURAL, when
it’s on the animal wearing it.
