THE PERFECT FIT
HOW TO MEASURE
Whether you are measuring for the framing of a new interior door or looking to
replace your existing door with one the same size, the process is pretty simple.
In terms of style, the possibilities are bountiful for standard and custom designs;
getting the perfect fit depends on careful measurement. Double checking your
measurements at least the first few times can save you time and energy later.
Interior Passage Door Specifications Required
1
Door slab size is determined by measuring the rough opening, less 2"
in height and width. Choose from the standard size that is closest to
this measurement.
ORDetermine the slab size and add 2" to the width and height, to get a
rough opening measurement.

Measure the location of the hinges, always starting at the top of the
door and measuring down to the top of each hinge (excluding the pin).

Measure the lock position for drilling, from the top of the door slab to the
centre of the lock diameter. Standard heights are 40" or 44".

Determine door swing/handing for accurate machining and correct
mounting of hinges and hardware.
Rough Opening Size:

Rough opening measurements are taken from the inside of the framing
lumber, both horizontally and vertically. It is easiest to do this when
there is no door installed.
If the door unit occupies the current rough opening and is being
replaced, the rough opening measurement can also be taken by
removing any necessary mouldings which may be preventing
you from seeing the actual lumber frame surrounding the door.
