Summer 2015 Homework
Welcome to AP Physics !
In order that we stay on track to cover all the material for the AP Physics 1 exam and for you to gain a
deeper understanding of the content presented, summer homework is assigned. You will find that we
cover most of the same general topics in Honors Physics but at a much greater pace and depth. If you
have any questions during the summer, please email me
( georgea@stcecilia.edu ) . I will post the assignments on the class portal but I will also email them to
you until the class portal is updated for the 2015-2016 school year. So please check your email
throughout the summer.
General Overview of the Class Content
AP Physics 1 is an algebra-based, introductory college-level physics course. Students cultivate their
understanding of Physics through inquiry-based investigations as they explore topics such as Newtonian
mechanics (including rotational motion); work, energy, and power; mechanical waves and sound; and
introductory, simple circuits.
Required Textbook: College Physics: Strategic App (AP Edition): ISBN: 9780133539677
Author: Knight, Publisher: Pearson
Assignment:



Read Chapter 1: Be sure to work through the example problems in the chapter.
Complete 1, 9, 18, 24, 28 pg. 23-24 (Question Section)
Complete 5, 10, 15, 24, 27, 28 pg. 24-25. (Problems Section)
As you read through the chapter, the material should seem very familiar to you from Honors Physics.
The concept around Motion Diagrams was not discussed in depth in Honors Physics but it was
introduced. The point of the summer homework is to familiarize yourself with the concept of Motion
Diagrams, review of motion in one-dimension (Speed, Velocity, Distance, and Displacement), review of
one-dimensions vectors, and conversions and significant figures.
The solutions will be posted to the homework within a few days before class. You should take the
opportunity to check your work and prepare any questions you may have the first day of class. We will
review the key concepts the first day and go deeper into motion diagrams if needed. Expect a QLT the
same day of class and a Quiz the next day over Chapter1.
