GEORGIA – UNITED ARAB EMIRATES (UAE) Economic Development Connection Government & Commerce Georgia is under the jurisdiction of the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates located in Washington, D.C. The Embassy’s Consular Section assists both UAE nationals looking to apply for a visa to enter the United States as well as foreigners seeking to enter the UAE. The consular office also handles most services for UAE nationals, such as passport–related inquiries. Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba has served since July 2008. The Georgia Institute of Technology offers an exchange program with the American University of Dubai. Georgia State University offers a summer program in history that visits the UAE and Oman. In November 2015, Governor Deal led a delegation and the state hosted a pavilion at the Dubai Airshow. Trade Relationship EXPORTS: In 2014, Georgia exports to the United Arab Emirates totaled slightly more than $703 million. The United Arab Emirates is currently the 14th largest export market for Georgia. Top exports from Georgia to the UAE include turbojets, civilian aircraft, motor vehicles, electrical machinery, poultry and optical or medical instruments. Georgia leads the nation in the export of the following goods to the UAE: poultry, paper and paperboard, carpets and other textile floor coverings, wood pulp and cocoa. IMPORTS: In 2014, Georgia’s imports from the UAE totaled nearly $88.8 million. UAE ranks 57th among Georgia’s top importer nations. Top imports from the United Arab Emirates include manmade filaments, fertilizers, articles of iron and steel, electrical machinery and cotton. The Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) in Savannah has an established relationship with two ports in the United Arab Emirates. GPA offers one weekly shipping service to the Port of Khorfakkan and six weekly services to the Port of Dubai/Jebel Ali.
