MAT 140 Survey of Mathematics This course provides an introduction in a non-technical setting to selected topics in mathematics. Topics may include, but are not limited to, sets, logic, probability, statistics, matrices, mathematical systems, geometry, topology, mathematics of finance, and modeling. Upon completion, students should be able to understand a variety of mathematical applications, think logically, and be able to work collaboratively and independently. This course has been approved to satisfy the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement general education Mathematics requirement for the AA and AFA degrees. It does not satisfy the general education Mathematics requirement for the AS degree. Prerequisites: Placement Test Score or Take One Set: Set 1: DMA 010, DMA 020, DMA 030, and DMA 040; RED 090 or DRE 098 Set 2: MAT 070 or higher; RED 090 or DRE 098 Corequisites: MAT 140A MAT 140A Survey of Mathematics Lab This course is a laboratory for MAT 140. Emphasis is placed on experiences that enhance the materials presented in the class. Upon completion, students should be able to solve problems, apply critical thinking, work in teams, and communicate effectively.
