This booklet contains regulations for paper-based Cambridge English: Young Learners (YLE) exams:

To save space, they are referred to throughout this document by their abbreviations.

■ You must have a copy of this booklet in each exam room and in the waiting room of the Speaking test venue.

Throughout this booklet, ‘You’ means the centre and/or the Centre Exams Manager (CEM) on behalf of the centre or any supervisor or invigilator who needs to carry out these tasks.

As required in your Centre Agreement, you are responsible for ensuring these and any other instructions from

Cambridge English Language Assessment are followed.

Part 1 – Written components

Timings and sequence of components

■ You must always run the Listening component before the Reading & Writing component. There is no exception to this exam sequence.

■ If you need to use a different room for the Listening test, for example, because of capacity or resourcing reasons, a second sitting of the Listening component is allowed, provided the second group waits under supervision and has no contact with the first group, and that they have no access to the internet, their mobile phones or any other electronic devices. You must keep the gap between tests as short as possible.

■ If you use a language laboratory for the listening component, you must either fulfill our minimum distance requirements of 1.25m or you can use dividers. If you are using dividers, you must make sure that they are both high and long enough on all sides to prevent candidates from seeing each other’s screens.

■ You must not run repeat sessions for any other component.

■ The Reading & Writing and Listening components must be taken on the same day. The Speaking test must be taken within a period of up to five days before or after the Reading & Writing and Listening components.

■ You must give candidates a break of at least 10 minutes between components.

■ Candidates can only take each component once in a session. This applies to every component.

■ The CEM has checked the exam materials. Make sure you have everything you need to run your exam today.

■ Check that CDs run on the equipment in the exam room.

A candidate must take all three components in order to get an Award. Candidates who fail to attend part or all of the test will not receive an Award and should be marked absent. Please also consider if such cases warrant an application for Special Consideration. Please see page 6 for further information.

The only exception to this would be if a project had been set up by prior agreement with Cambridge English

Language Assessment.

Exam rooms

You must:

■ Have at least one invigilator per 25 candidates in each exam room.

■ Ensure that if there is only one invigilator, they must not be related to the candidates or have been their teacher, and you must ensure they have a way of summoning assistance.

■ Use direction signs or a suitable alternative to help candidates find the exam room.

■ Display the current YLE Notice to candidates inside or outside the exam room.

■ Remove or cover all helpful material, such as posters or notices in English (except for safety notices).

■ Ensure there is an accurate method of timing available to all candidates, for example by having a clock at the front of the room.

■ Write the centre number, the name of the exam, and the component on a board or flipchart so that they are visible to all candidates.

Seating arrangements

■ Candidates must sit at a desk or table.

■ Do not use chairs with side flaps unless the side flaps allow candidates to work with question papers and answer sheets side by side.

■ Ensure that desks are at least 1.25m apart (from the centre of one candidate’s working area to the centre of the next candidate’s working area in all directions). Check this by using a tape measure.

■ Desks can be in any formation, including round tables, as long as candidates are at least 1.25m apart.

■ Desks can be shared, as long as candidates are at least 1.25m apart.

■ Desks must be positioned so that the invigilator(s) are able to patrol the room.

■ Your CEM will give you desk labels with candidate numbers. Display them on each desk.

■ Candidate numbers must be clearly visible to invigilators from a distance.

Authorised/unauthorised items

You must provide an area away from the desks where candidates can store personal items during the exams

(preferably outside the exam room). No smoking, eating or drinking is allowed in the exam room (except for water in a clear plastic bottle).

Make sure all unauthorised items are removed from desks before starting a component.

Be aware of local laws when you are removing unauthorised materials.

YLE candidates do not need to bring ID.

Authorised items that candidates can have at their desk during the exam:

Pens, pencils, erasers, highlighters, small pencil cases, water in a plastic bottle, medicine, tissues and statement of entry.

Examples of unauthorised items that must not be at the candidates’ desks:

Mobile phones, cameras or any other electronic items, dictionaries, notes, correction fluid/tape, etc., erasable pens, paper, bags, handbags, luggage.

No other items are allowed at candidate desks.

Step 2 – Starting each component

Only candidates, supervisors, invigilators and Inspectors are allowed in the exam room. You must not allow anyone else into the exam room. Inspectors will always provide proof of identity.

You can translate instructions into the local language as long as all points are covered and all candidates understand them.

Before each component:

■ Ensure that the mobile phones of all staff are switched off.

■ Show candidates to their desk with their candidate number.

■ Tell them to switch off their mobile phones, including any alarms. The ‘vibrate’ or ‘silent’ mode is not acceptable as it could interfere with Listening test equipment.

■ Tell them to switch off any other electronic items, including alarms on their watches.

■ Tell them to put mobile phones and other unauthorised items in an area away from their desks.

■ Check that they have the necessary pens or pencils. If not, give them some of the spare ones that you have.

Just before the test begins, go through the following points with the candidates.

Tell candidates:

■ They are now under exam conditions.

■ The use of any unauthorised electronic items or mobile phones ringing will be treated as malpractice.

■ They must not keep or use unauthorised items. They must not talk or copy anything. If they do, they will be disqualified.

■ Anyone who does not follow instructions will be disqualified.

Distributing question papers:

■ Tell candidates they must not open the question papers until they are told to do so.

■ Open the question paper envelopes in front of the candidates and distribute them.

■ Point out any important information about the paper (e.g. any errata).

Listening

Tell candidates:

■ Which component they are taking, how long it will take, and how many questions there are (you can see this information on the front of the question paper).

■ They will hear each part twice.

■ They must write all their answers on the question papers (there are no separate answer sheets).

Reading & Writing

Tell candidates:

■ Which component they are taking, how long it will take, and how many questions there are (you can see this information on the front of the question paper).

■ They must write all their answers on the question papers (there are no separate answer sheets).

■ You will tell them when there are 5 minutes left.

■ Help candidates to fill in the information on the front of the paper.

■ Tell them that you cannot help them with test content in any way.

■ Ask them if they have any questions.

■ Tell them they can open their question paper and begin.

■ For the Reading & Writing component, check the time on the clock. Write the exact start and finish times on the board.

Step 3 – During each component

You must invigilate the exam and ensure that there is no malpractice.

Invigilating the Listening component

■ Once the Listening component has started, you must not interrupt it except in an emergency.

■ You must not allow anybody to enter or leave the room during the Listening componnent.

■ During the Listening component, you must have a good view of all candidates.

■ Look out for candidates:

● using cameras, including pen cameras, or electronic items

● behaving suspiciously, such as reading hidden notes, etc.

■ You must not do any other activity in the exam room, for example, reading a book or working on a laptop.

■ You must not move around the room during the test unless absolutely necessary as it may affect candidates’ hearing of the test.

■ Be careful not to disturb or distract candidates.

Invigilating the Reading & Writing component

■ You must be alert at all times and regularly patrol the exam room.

■ Look out for candidates:

● who need assistance (such as toilet breaks)

● using cameras, including pen cameras, or electronic items

● behaving suspiciously, such as reading hidden notes, etc.

■ You must not do any other activity in the exam room, for example, reading a book or working on a laptop.

■ Be careful not to disturb or distract candidates.

■ See the ‘Concluding the test’ section for what warning you need to give candidates 5 minutes before the end of the test.

Room plans

You must complete an accurate room plan before the end of each component with the following information:

■ the position of each candidate by candidate number

■ the direction they are facing

■ the true distance between the candidates, e.g. if the distance is 1.5m, indicate 1.5m on the room plan

■ the number and position of invigilators.

For Listening tests, also indicate the position of playback equipment and speakers, and any pillars or other features which might affect the sound.

You must return room plans to us together with the exam materials.

Attendance registers

Attendance registers can be printed from the YLE Entries System in advance of a test, or you can create your own.

■ Complete and sign the attendance register before the end of each component .

■ If a candidate is not on the attendance register, add their name and candidate number and tell the CEM of this addition as soon as possible. If there is no space available on the attendance register, attach a note with the candidate’s name and candidate number. You must also mark Special Arrangements candidates on the attendance register.

■ Pay particular attention to the spelling of candidates’ names on all documents to ensure that no mistakes are made.

You must return attendance registers to us together with the exam materials.

Absent candidates

■ Mark a candidate’s absence on the attendance register in the attendance column.

■ Remove the absent candidate’s materials from the desk after allowing enough time for a late arrival.

You must never use an absent candidate’s answer sheet for another candidate.

Candidates who want to leave the room

During the Listening test, candidates must not leave the room at any time.

For Reading & Writing, a candidate can leave and return to the exam room under supervision at any time (except during the final 10 minutes). There must be a before-and-after search of toilets, etc.

■ Tell the candidate to close and turn their question paper face down on their desk.

■ Remind the candidate that they are still under exam conditions during the time they are out of the exam room.

■ Make sure the candidate is escorted by a member of staff. If you are the only invigilator, you must ask another member of staff to help, as you must not leave the exam room.

■ Make sure the candidate does not communicate with anyone while outside the room.

■ Make sure that the papers remain untouched until the candidate returns and resumes work.

If a candidate has finished their Reading & Writing component and wants to leave the room permanently:

■ Check that there are more than 10 minutes remaining.

■ Tell the candidate they must stay in their seat.

■ Collect all question papers and rough work.

■ Tell the candidate to leave the room quietly.

■ You must not allow the candidate to re-enter the room until the end of the component.

Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people

You are responsible for the safety and welfare of children and young people during the exam. Please see the Child protection policy article on the support website for further information.

Incidents

Malpractice

Fill in a Malpractice Form – Local Template available on the support website during the test and give it to your supervisor/CEM. If relevant for other candidates, fill in a Special Consideration Form – Local Template available on the support website and give it to your CEM/supervisor.

■ Your CEM is responsible for submitting the online Malpractice form on the support website within one week of the exam.

You must report anything unusual, such as suspicious behaviour of any candidates during the exam, to the supervisor or CEM.

Some examples of malpractice:

■ talking

■ copying/helping another candidate

■ communicating with or signalling to another candidate during the test

■ using unauthorised items, such as dictionaries or notes

■ using electronic items

■ impersonation

■ disruptive behaviour

■ not following the instructions of exam staff

■ failing to switch off mobile phone, mobile phone ringing, etc.

If you suspect malpractice or have clear evidence of malpractice:

■ give a discreet but clear warning to the candidate that they will be reported

■ allow the candidate to complete any remaining components

■ write down the specific and clear details of the incident and pass them to your supervisor or the

CEM

■ do not ask candidates to write statements at the time

■ be aware of local laws when you are removing unauthorised materials.

You must not disqualify candidates from subsequent components. However, in extreme circumstances, you can exclude a candidate from the exam room and from taking the exam if the candidate’s continued presence would cause disruption to other candidates or poses a threat to health and safety.

The decision to disqualify must be left to Cambridge

English Language Assessment.

Late arrivals

Fill in a Late Arrival Form – Local Template available on the support website during the test and give it to your supervisor/CEM.

■ Your CEM is responsible for submitting the online Late Arrival form on the support website within one week of the exam.

You must not allow late arrivals for Listening tests to enter once the test has started.

For Reading & Writing, you can allow late arrivals to enter (with the supervisor’s permission) if no other candidate has finished the test and left the room.

■ You can refuse to admit late arrivals if this is your centre’s policy.

■ You must read the full instructions to them (this can be done outside of the exam room if the other candidates have already started the test). You must allow them the full time of the test.

■ When the test has finished for everyone else, let all other candidates leave the room and mark the point reached by the candidate on the question paper.

■ Take particular care if questions have not been answered in sequence.

■ If a candidate is late for a good reason (e.g. sudden illness or transport problems) and exam security has not been threatened, we will accept all the work completed by the candidate.

■ If a candidate is late because of carelessness (e.g. oversleeping or misreading the timetable) and exam security has not been threatened, we will accept the work completed within the normal exam times.

Special Consideration

If something happens that you think might have affected the performance of the candidates, fill in a Special

Consideration Form – Local Template available on the support website during the test and give it to your supervisor/

CEM. This is to ensure that your candidates are not disadvantaged.

■ Your CEM is responsible for submitting the online Special Consideration form on the support website within one week of the exam.

Some examples of acceptable reasons for Special Consideration:

■ A candidate is unwell during the exam.

■ There is a loud noise during the Listening component including a mobile phone ringing.

■ There are problems with the Listening test equipment.

■ There is a delay that might distress the candidates.

Please consider whether the issue affects all the candidates in the room, a range of candidates in an area, or a single candidate.

Emergencies

Fill in a Special Consideration Form – Local Template available on the support website during the test and give it to your supervisor/CEM.

■ Your CEM is responsible for submitting the online Special Consideration form on the support website within one week of the exam.

If there is an emergency, such as a fire alarm or bomb alert, follow the instructions below:

■ Evacuate the exam room following the regulations of the venue.

■ Leave the question papers in the exam room.

■ Supervise the candidates as closely as possible to make sure they don’t talk to each other or use mobile phones/the internet.

■ After candidates have returned to the exam room and before the component is resumed, mark on each candidate’s work where the interruption occurred.

■ Note the time and length of the interruption.

■ Write the new finish times on the board and allow candidates the full working time for the component.

If during the test the Listening equipment or the CD fails, you should do the following:

■ Make a note of where the CD stopped.

■ Get help if you are the sole invigilator and ask for a replacement of the equipment or CD.

■ Tell candidates to close their question papers and remain silent until the problem can be resolved.

■ When the replacement is provided, carry out a sound check with the candidates by playing some of the introduction.

■ Use headphones to fast forward to the place where the CD was stopped.

■ Tell candidates to open their question papers and resume the test.

Step 4 – Concluding each component

Listening

At the end of the component you will hear on the CD: ‘That is the end of the Starters/Movers/

Flyers Listening test.’ These words are followed by some music.

■ While the music is playing, tell candidates to put down their pens or pencils immediately and close the question papers.

Reading & Writing

■ Five minutes before the end of the component, tell candidates that there are five minutes remaining.

■ At the end of the test, tell candidates to put their pencils down immediately and close the question papers.

■ Tell candidates to check they have written their name, centre and candidate number on the question paper.

■ Tell candidates to stay in their seats.

■ Collect all question papers and count them to check that you have collected everything.

■ Tell candidates to leave the room quietly.

■ Collate the question papers in candidate number order, ensuring that they correspond to the relevant attendance register.

■ Pack materials according to the instructions given in the Packing instructions .

■ Seal the materials in the exam room, either in a script return envelope or temporary A4 envelope. If you are using temporary envelopes, put your signature across the seal after sealing them. Give all the materials to your supervisor or CEM.

■ Pass any name corrections to the CEM, as well as reports for Special Consideration, Malpractice and Late

Arrivals.

Part 2 – Speaking test

The YLE Speaking test is a face-to-face interaction between one Speaking Examiner (SE) and one candidate. The only people allowed in the exam room during a Speaking test are an SE, a candidate and a Team Leader (a TL can be in the exam room for monitoring purposes). Inspectors do not enter the exam room during a Speaking test. They will check the Speaking test room before or between tests.

For running a Speaking test, you will need:

■ supervisor (in the waiting area)

■ marshal (to escort candidates between the waiting area and exam rooms. You might need more than one depending on the number of test rooms used.)

■ SEs (outside the UK: provided by the centre; in the UK: provided by Cambridge English Language Assessment).

The SE conducts the YLE Speaking test and assesses the candidate’s performance.

Please note that these are only recommended times, and that examiners must conduct the YLE Speaking tests at the child’s pace. The recommended duration might need to be adjusted to suit circumstances. A turnaround time of

1 minute has been allowed between candidates, and the examiner must use this time to complete the mark sheet.

Timetabling information

■ Your CEM will give you a copy of the timetable; make sure you have it with you during all the sessions as you might have to show it to an SE or Inspector.

■ Speaking test sessions must be timetabled to last a maximum of 2 hours, and you must include a break of at least 30 minutes between sessions. Sessions should start on time.

■ CEMs must schedule an extra 3 minutes per Speaking test when a Team Leader is carrying out monitoring.

■ If you have a large session, it is not necessary for all candidates to arrive at the start of the Speaking test session. You can group them so that they do not have to wait for a long time before the test. We recommend that candidates are instructed to arrive no earlier than 30 minutes before the Speaking test.

Exam rooms and waiting area

The CEM will have chosen a suitable venue, which must have enough rooms for only one Speaking test to be held in a room at a time. It must also have a waiting area some distance away from the test rooms.

The SEs are responsible for arranging the furniture in the test room as shown below.

This can be in the waiting area or in the exam room, for example, a table in the corner where candidates can put their personal items.

Before the test

■ Each SE will need a Speaking pack and a copy of Instructions to Speaking Examiners . Examiners must not assess candidates unless they have both of these. Your CEM will have ordered them and will either have given them directly to the SEs, or given them to you to distribute. In the UK, the SEs will bring these materials with them. If you have the packs to give out to SEs, make a record on the log which pack is issued to which examiner.

■ Speaking test materials must never be left unattended. During break times, store them securely, for example, by locking them in the test room or a safe.

■ Your CEM will have informed you about arrangements for the SEs, for example refreshments and car parking.

■ Check the candidate names with the SEs in case they know any of the candidates personally, have taught them in the last three years or examined them in the previous six weeks. Make changes to the Speaking test day timetable if necessary.

■ Check you have enough envelopes for sealing mark sheets and give them to your SEs.

■ Show SEs to the test room, and inform them of any changes to the timetable.

■ Check the candidate name and number are correct on the mark sheet.

■ Check whether the mark sheets should be given to the SE as a set, or whether they want to be given the mark sheets one at a time, by the marshal.

Speaking Examiner duties (for your information)

■ Be punctual and follow the Speaking test timings.

■ Keep Speaking test materials and mark sheets secure at all times.

■ Ensure there is a suitable test environment in the exam room.

■ Tell the supervisor if any candidate:

● is known to them in a personal capacity

● has been examined by them within the previous six weeks

● has been taught by them in the previous three years.

Any such candidate must be examined by another SE.

■ Complete mark sheets during, or immediately after, each Speaking test. All completed mark sheets are confidential.

■ Inform the CEM and/or supervisor of any situation affecting a candidate’s performance, where the centre might have to request Special Consideration.

■ Seal the mark sheets in the test room and give them to the supervisor at the end of each 2-hour examining session.

When candidates arrive

■ Tick their name on the attendance register.

■ Keep a record of any name corrections to give to the CEM.

■ Tell them to switch off their mobile phones and any other electronic items, including alarms on their watches.

■ Supervise waiting candidates and make sure the room is quiet.

■ Ensure that those candidates who have been examined are kept separate from those awaiting the exam as long as they are on exam premises.

■ Keep the candidates quiet throughout the session in the area near the test room and in the waiting area.

When candidates are ready to go into the test room

■ If requested, give the mark sheet to the marshal to pass to the SE.

■ Tell candidates where to put their belongings.

■ Make sure they are escorted to the test room and supervised until they enter the test room.

Marshal duties

■ Ensure that each child knows what to expect in the test room and is not anxious about taking the test.

■ Tell each child the name of the SE and assure them that they are very nice and friendly.

■ Take Speaking test mark sheets to the SE if instructed to do so by the supervisor.

■ Escort each child to a chair outside the test room, accompany them into the test room at the appropriate time and introduce them to the SE, in English, before leaving.

■ Leave the door open into the test room if it is not possible to see the room through a glass panel. If the SE leaves the door open, do not close it during the test. If the door to the test room is open, you must ensure that the waiting candidate is sitting far enough away not to overhear the test in progress.

■ Ensure that candidates who have taken the test are not allowed to re-enter the waiting room.

Incidents

Late arrivals

If a candidate is late for their Speaking test, add them to a later time in your timetable once they arrive.

Absent candidates

If a candidate is absent, you might have to re-arrange their exam on another day, within five days of the exam window.

If you cannot arrange another Speaking test, mark them as absent on the attendance register.

Emergency Special Arrangements

An SE might discover on the day of the Speaking test that a candidate has a difficulty which could affect their performance. If you did not know in advance, please do one of the following:

If the test has not started yet

The SE will tell you immediately so that you can make emergency Special Arrangements.

Contact the Helpdesk if you need advice about the type of Special Arrangements required or if the test needs to be taken outside the five-day window.

If the test has started

The SE will decide as soon as possible whether to conduct the test as normal or stop the test.

■ If the test is completed , you must not reschedule or allow the candidates to retake the test.

Fill in a Special Consideration Form – Local Template available on the support website and give it to your supervisor/CEM.

Submit a Special Consideration form on the support website within one week of the exam day.

■ If the test is stopped, you will need to reschedule the test. Contact the Helpdesk for advice about the type of Special Arrangements required. If you want to apply for the test to be taken after the 5-day window, you must submit a Timetable

Deviation Request form on the support website.

Malpractice

Fill in a Malpractice Form – Local Template available on the support website during the test and give it to your supervisor/CEM. If relevant for other candidates, fill in a Special Consideration Form – Local Template available on the support website and give it to your CEM/supervisor.

■ Your CEM is responsible for submitting the online Malpractice form on the support website within one week of the exam day.

You must report anything unusual, such as suspicious behaviour of any candidates during the exam, to the supervisor or CEM.

Some examples of malpractice:

■ speaking to candidates who have already taken the test

■ using electronic items

■ impersonation

■ disruptive behaviour

■ not following the instructions of exam staff

■ failing to switch off mobile phones, mobile phones ringing, etc.

If you suspect malpractice or have clear evidence of malpractice:

■ give a discreet but clear warning to the candidate that they will be reported

■ allow the candidate to complete any remaining tests

■ report the incident using a Malpractice form. Reports must contain specific and clear details

■ do not ask candidates to write statements at the time

■ be aware of local laws when you are removing unauthorised materials.

You must not disqualify candidates from subsequent papers.

However, in extreme circumstances, you can exclude a candidate from the exam room and from taking the exam if the candidate’s continued presence would cause disruption to other candidates or poses a threat to health and safety.

The decision to disqualify must be left to Cambridge English

Language Assessment.

Speaking mark sheets

Each Examiner is responsible for the mark sheets once handed to them by the marshals. Please note that all information on the mark sheets is confidential.

After every 2-hour session, the Examiner and/or supervisor must follow these steps:

1. Arrange the mark sheets in candidate number order including any absent candidates.

2. Check mark sheets have been filled in correctly.

3. Place mark sheets for each level in separate A4 envelopes.

4. Seal envelopes, and the Examiner and/or supervisor must sign across the seals.

5. Give to the CEM or supervisor for secure storage.

After the final session the CEM will need to input Speaking marks twice into the YLE Entries System.

Name corrections and forms

Pass any name corrections to the CEM, as well as the specific and clear details of the Special Consideration,

Malpractice and Late Arrival cases, and pass them to your supervisor or the CEM.

Part 3 – Packing instructions

■ You must follow these instructions to make sure the papers are marked promptly, and to maintain the security of the materials.

■ Your CEM will either give you script return envelopes or A4 envelopes to pack the materials in the exam room.

■ You must return to us or destroy all materials within three calendar days as listed. You must not keep anything to use for teaching or other purposes.

■ For candidates who arrive late, add the question paper in sequence with the other candidates’ work.

Reading

& Writing component

Put in script return envelope or A4 envelope

Speaking test Collate mark sheets in candidate number order and check they’ve been filled out correctly.

There is no separate script return envelope for the YLE Speaking mark sheets and attendance register.

You must seal them in temporary A4 envelopes in the exam room to re-pack them later together with the used Listening test materials.

Keep Speaking test packs for use in future tests. Do not return or destroy them until you receive a newer version of the Speaking test.

Include used question paper booklets, room plan, entry form and attendance register in the script return envelope. Collate question papers in candidate number order, then seal the envelopes in the exam room.

Put unused question papers for returning into a separate envelope within the same consignment. Write ‘Unused question papers’ on the envelope.

Listening component

Include used question paper booklets, room plan and attendance register. Collate question papers in candidate number order, then seal them in temporary A4 envelopes in the exam room to re-pack the mark sheets later together with the Speaking and attendance register.

Put unused question papers for returning into a separate envelope within the same consignment. Write ‘Unused question papers’ on the envelope.

Either put CDs in a separate envelope within the same consignment or give them to the CEM for secure destruction.

Absent candidates

■ Speaking: Mark the candidate as absent on the Speaking Examiner mark sheet and return this mark sheet with the others.

■ Other papers: Mark the candidate as absent on the entry form.

■ YLE Entries System: The CEM will mark the candidate as absent/withdrawn on the YLE Entries System. If the

CEM marks the candidate as absent, they also have to withdraw them to prevent invoicing.

Materials for candidates with Special Arrangements

Administrative Special Arrangements only

(e.g. extra time)

■ Include the candidates’ materials with the other candidates’ materials.

Modified materials

■ Put the candidate’s answers in a separate A4 envelope, including any other materials, such as

■ Write the candidate’s name and number on the envelope. Also include the exam and date.

■ Add the envelope in sequence with the other candidate materials in the correct script return envelope.

■ Write ‘Candidate with Special Arrangements’ on the outside of the script return envelope.

Sealing the envelopes

Script return envelopes

■ Use a different script return envelope for each component.

■ Attach the bar code label.

■ You may also need to split a component and pack it in multiple envelopes for different packing codes or candidate ranges, if listed on the bar code label.

A4 envelopes

■ Put your signature across the seal.

■ Give the sealed envelope to the person responsible for keeping it in a safe place and despatching it. If this person needs to open the envelopes to check the materials before despatching, they must do this in the presence of a witness in a secure restricted area. They must then seal the materials in a script return envelope.

■ Exam materials must not be removed from the exam room, transported or stored unsealed.

If you find an error after the relevant documents have been despatched to us, the CEM must contact

Operations.M@cambridgeenglish.org immediately. We will correct the name and, where relevant, will despatch an amended Award.

Storing Speaking test packs

UK centres

SEs are responsible for Speaking test packs, and will bring these with them on the day of the exam.

Non-UK centres

The Speaking test packs must be stored securely at all times. For further details, see the Handbook for centres .
