He is the Preacher at Solemn Mass this morning. Many of you will remember him as a locum priest here at St James’s from time to time. I have been enjoying his company at the Altar and in and around the church. He has also been gardening at the Vicarage and is proving to be worth his weight in gold! I know you have made him welcome and I’m sure we will all enjoy his ministry among us at this time. Bishop Lindsay Urwin OGS Returns to Australia at present Bishop Lindsay serves in the U.K. where he is Administrator of the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham and Provost of the Woodard Schools. Born in Melbourne, he will return to Australia in September as Vicar of Christ Church, Brunswick and Bishop of Chaplains in Anglican Schools. While in Melbourne in September 2014, he visited Father Jabulani during his convalescence here at the Vicarage and a week later spent a day with me on Oratory matters. Later, at my request, Gary Bartholomew hosted a lavish lunch at his home in Armadale in Bishop Lindsay’s honour enabling some St James’ folk to spend some time with him. Publications: please collect your copy of The Melbourne Anglican after mass this morning. You will find a St James’s advert re our Centenary events on page 21. The latest edition of Eternity is also available in the porch. In sealed plastic bags, there are letters from the Dame Elisabeth Murdoch Mother’s Day Appeal. Inside there is also an attractive give-away for your use as a thank-you card or letter to a friend. Please take a copy should you wish to support the appeal or use the card. Pastoral: Many have been asking after Richard Kendall who is now living at his Daylesford residence since the sale of his house in Rippon Lea. He misses St James’s and is endeavouring to continue his links with St James’s. Meanwhile Anne and Greg have been holidaying in New Zealand and should be home soon. David Stidston and Georgia Bahula are assisting with the Cub Scouts at an ANZAC commemoration this morning. And please pray for Johan de Jonge who is under considerable emotional stress at this time. With the blessing of the Vicar, our friend Heather Martin is seeking to have St James the Great registered as the first church in Australia to be granted a certificate of recognition as an Animal Friendly Church by the U.K. Anglican Society for the Welfare of Animals. The certificate is presented to churches which show that they are making a conscious and sustained effort to operate in an animal-friendly way as a church family. Cash flow problem a big water bill will be automatically deducted from the parish account this month and our bank account is very low due to expenses associated with both Easter & Centenary events.
