HOLY ANGEL UNIVERSITY LIBRARY http://www.hau.edu.ph/university_library/ Library Pathfinder Anthropology DEFINITIONS Anthropology Is the scientific study of the human species. It is the exploration of human diversity in time and space. Anthropology confronts basic questions of human existence; how we originated, how we have changed and how we still changing. Anthropology is holistic, holism refers to the study of the whole of human condition: past, present and future; biology, society, language and culture. (Kottak, Conrad Phillip, Anthropology : the exploration of human diversity 10 th ed. 301 K87 2004 Boston : McGraw Hill, 2004, Circulation Section, University Library) Anthropology is a science of humankind. It studies all facets of society and culture. It studies tools, techniques, traditions, language, beliefs, kinships, values, social institutions, economic mechanisms, cravings for beauty and art, struggles for prestige. It describes the impact of humans on other humans. With the exception of the Physicial Anthropology discipline, Anthropology focuses on human characteristics generated and propogated by humans themselves.
