MONDRAGON is one of the largest business groups in Spain. In
2014, the group’s revenues totalled about €12,000 million, while
its staff comprised 74,117 workers. The 260 companies and cooperatives in the MONDRAGON Group operate in such sectors as the
manufacturing industry, finance, and retail, carrying out initiatives
in the fields of knowledge, innovation, education and the promotion of new businesses.
Global presence. MONDRAGON has more than 11,000
people working abroad in 9 delegations and 125 production subsidiaries. The group’s innovative drive is channelled into 15 technology centres and into the cooperatives themselves, participating in
research and technology development projects at the national and
international level.
Humanity at work. The MONDRAGON cooperative
model encourages people’s participation and involvement with
company management, as well as profit sharing and company
ownership. The focus on people, cooperation and inter-cooperative
solidarity is captured in the group’s slogan, ‘Humanity at work’.

España. En 2014 tuvo unos ingresos de cerca de 12.000 millones
de euros y una plantilla de 74.117 trabajadores. Las 260 empresas
y cooperativas que forman MONDRAGON operan en los sectores de
industria, finanzas y distribución, y desarrollan iniciativas en el
ámbito del conocimiento, la innovación, la educación y la promoción de nuevos negocios.
Presencia global. Con más de 11.000 personas traba-
jando fuera de España en 9 delegaciones y 125 centros productivos.
Además, su actitud innovadora se canaliza a través de sus 15 centros tecnológicos y de las propias cooperativas, que participan en
numerosos proyectos nacionales e internacionales de investigación
y desarrollo tecnológico.

Since its inception, MONDRAGON has bid for the

the basis of a democratic, participatory model

Banking, finance and
social security
With LABORAL Kutxa and Lagun Aro as flagship
companies, the financial area at MONDRAGON Corporation comprises three distinct lines: banking,
insurance and social security.
LABORAL Kutxa, a cooperative banking project,
serves 1.2 million clients. Currently, it is one of
the strongest financial institutions in Spain. Its
network is comprised of 371 branches in a large
number of Spanish cities. LABORAL Kutxa gives
support to SMEs in industry, the agri-food sector
and entrepreneurs.
Through Lagun Aro, moreover, it offers all kinds of
insurance services for individuals, self-employed
people and corporations.
LagunAro, EPSV manages a social security system
of its own, including healthcare and pensions,
among other services. Its financial activity is aimed
at optimising the profitability of its equity funds
to ensure the provision of services to members in
the future.

Las enseñas LABORAL Kutxa y Lagun Aro centran
su actividad en tres actividades específicas: banca,
seguros, y previsión social.
LABORAL Kutxa es un proyecto de banca cooperativa que trabaja con 1,2 millones de clientes, y es
en la actualidad una de las entidades financieras
más solventes de España. Cuenta con una red de
371 oficinas en gran parte de la geografía española. Está especialmente comprometida con las
pymes industriales, el sector agroalimentario y los
emprendedores.
Además, a través de la enseña Lagun Aro ofrece
todo tipo de servicios de seguros tanto para particulares como para autónomos y empresas.
LagunAro, EPSV gestiona un sistema de previsiónsocial propio. Incluye, entre otras, prestaciones de
asistencia sanitaria o jubilación y orienta su actividad financiera a la optimización de la rentabilidad
de sus fondos patrimoniales, con el fin de garantizar las prestaciones futuras de sus socios.

Global presence and
innovative character
The industrial area includes a wide variety of
activities, producing goods and services in many
different sectors: consumer goods, capital goods,
industrial components, construction and business
services.
One of the main characteristics of the MONDRAGON cooperatives in the industrial sector is their
strong global presence. They have 125 production
subsidiaries abroad, and their international sales
account for more than 70% of total sales. What is
more, the industrial cooperatives of MONDRAGON
Corporation are always working to innovate and
improve market competitiveness. This is done with
the cooperation of R&D units and centres, and with
Mondragon Unibertsitatea, the university associated to the Corporation.

El Área Industria integra una gran variedad de
actividades e incluye productos y servicios en los
sectores de bienes de consumo, bienes de equipo,
componentes industriales, construcción o servicios
empresariales.
Una de las características principales de la
actividad industrial de las cooperativas es su
amplia presencia internacional, con un total de
125 filiales productivas en el exterior y un porcentaje de ventas internacionales que supera el 70% de
las ventas totales. También es destacable su esfuerzo innovador para mejorar su capacidad competitiva
en los mercados, labor que realiza en coordinación
con los centros y unidades de I+D y con la propia
universidad, Mondragon Unibertsitatea.

El GRUPO EROSKI es un operador de la distribución española, con una red que supera los 1800
establecimientos. Su actividad se desarrolla fundamentalmente en la distribución alimentaria, pero
cuenta además con perfumerías, tiendas de deporte,
gasolineras, ópticas y agencias de viaje.

GRUPO EROSKI is one of the leading retail groups
in Spain, its network comprising more than 1800
outlets. It operates mainly in the food sector, but it
also has specialty stores in such sectors as beauty,
sports, fuel, optics and travel.
Together with the French group Les Mousquetaires
and Edeka, the largest supermarket corporation in
Germany, Eroski is part of the Alidis alliance, today
ranking as number three amongst European purchasing structures.
At the core of the group there is the Eroski cooperative, owned by workers and consumer members, who
are part of its governing bodies. Eroski does intense
social work, mainly through the Eroski Foundation,
promoting healthy lifestyles, educating consumers,
protecting the environment, and encouraging solidarity and other fundamental values.
ERKOP
In retail, MONDRAGON Corporation also includes the
food group Erkop, whose activities revolve around
catering, cleaning, husbandry and market gardening.
Forma parte de la alianza internacional Alidis junto
al grupo francés Les Mousquetaires y al líder de la
distribución alemana Edeka. Juntos forman la tercera Central de Compras Europea.
La matriz del grupo es la cooperativa Eroski, formada por trabajadores propietarios y socios consumidores, quienes constituyen los órganos de máxima
decisión de la cooperativa. Eroski desarrolla una intensa labor social, en gran parte canalizada a través
de Fundación Eroski, para la promoción de hábitos
de vida saludables, la formación al consumidor, la
defensa del medio ambiente y la solidaridad.
ERKOP
Al Área Distribución de MONDRAGON pertenece
también el grupo alimentario Erkop, que desarrolla
su actividad en los sectores de catering, limpieza,
ganadería y horticultura.

A university of our own
and 15 R&D centres
People’s training and education have always been
part and parcel of the cooperative experience at
MONDRAGON. In 1997, the Corporation established
Mondragon Unibertsitatea. At present, the university has more than 4500 students and campuses
in Mondragón, Oñati, Eskoriatza, Markina, Goierri,
Irun, Bilbao, Aretxabaleta and San Sebastián. The
learning offering of Mondragon Unibertsitatea
includes undergraduate and graduate programmes
(Master’s and PhD) in the fields of engineering,
education, communications, business management,
entrepreneurship and food science.
MONDRAGON has developed a comprehensive
Innovation, Promotion and Knowledge system
(M4FUTURE), which involves the cooperatives
themselves, research centres, the university and
the Corporate Promotion Centre.

La formación y educación de las personas son un pilar histórico de la Experiencia Cooperativa. En 1997
la Corporación creó Mondragon Unibertsitatea,
donde actualmente cursan estudios universitarios
más de 4.500 alumnos, con campus en Mondragón,
Oñati, Eskoriatza, Markina, Goierri, Irun, Bilbao,
Aretxabaleta y San Sebastián. Su oferta formativa
incluye varios grados, másteres universitarios y
programas de doctorado en las áreas de ingeniería,
educación, comunicación, gestión empresarial, emprendimiento y gastronomía.
MONDRAGON ha desarrollado también un sistema integrado de Innovación, Promoción y Conocimiento
(M4FUTURE), en el que participan las propias cooperativas, los centros de investigación, la universidad,
y el Centro de Promoción Corporativo.

vehicles
The automotive sector is already one of the
group’s main business areas, but it needs to be
under ongoing transformation and technological innovation to meet the demands of vehicle
assemblers and end consumers.
In this sector, the future lies in more efficient,
more comfortable, safer vehicles. MONDRAGON
is developing new parts and modules (powertrains, chassis, lightweight systems, electronics,
finishes, anti-vibration devices, and so on), as
well as manufacturing systems (pressing, die
cutting, assembly lines for stamping, moulding
equipment, casting tools and moulds).

Es ya una de las principales áreas de negocio
del grupo, pero requiere un proceso de transformación e innovación tecnológica permanente
por las exigencias de los ensambladores de
vehículos y del consumidor final.

Environmental awareness and the need for wise resource management have turned energy into both a priority and an opportunity.
In this field, MONDRAGON focuses on solutions for generating,
storing and transporting energy, the intelligent administration
and optimisation of resource consumption, and the development
of value-added applications for urban environments. MONDRAGON
is involved in electromobility, water treatment, environmental
rehabilitation and smart city projects, in several cases performing
advisory roles for public administrations.
