This course is specifically designed to meet the needs of students in these advanced levels of French. The student will solidify his command of knowledge already learned, integrate new materials, and begin to use the language more spontaneously with more variety and individual style. There will be expanded opportunity for each student to express himself in less structured language activities. Course Enduring Understandings: The learner will understand that the ability to use multiple tenses will enable him to more effectively communicate along a timeline. The learner will understand that acquiring a broader range of vocabulary will enhance his communication. The learner will understand that language and culture are inseparable. The learner will understand that communicating in the target language is essential to second language acquisition. The learner will realize that knowledge of the target language will enable them to appreciate literature written in the language. The learner will assume the responsibility of keeping abreast of current events in the French-speaking world. The learner will avail himself of internet resources to improve listening and reading comprehension skills and further his study of history and culture. Course Credit: 1 credit Level: Grades 11-12 Honors Prerequisite: Successful completion of levels 1, 2, 3 (and 4) with a grade of “C” or better. Areas of Study: The intermediate student will continue to grow in the language development areas of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Language development will revolve around the themes of Global Challenges, Contemporary Life, Science and Technology, Beauty and Esthetics, Personal and Public Identities, and Families and Communities. Speaking, reading, writing, and listening activities will be used to augment language acquisition. Grading: The grading scale will be decided by grade average or by total points earned each nine weeks. The following will be the grading scale: 100 - 90% = A 89 - 80% = B 79 - 70% = C 69 - 60% = D 59 - 0% = E
