Getting Started with Blackboard Collaborate

requirements recommended for running a session.
1. Visit the Blackboard Collaborate Technical Support site and access the web conferencing for first time users
section: http://support.blackboardcollaborate.com/
2. Confirm the supported Operating Systems, Internet Browsers, and Java Application version for your system.
3. For Linux and Mac OS X 10.4 and earlier users, we strongly recommend that you use a headset (or at least
headphones or an echo canceling microphone) rather than speakers when using simultaneous talkers.
B. You may join a Blackboard Collaborate session in two ways:
1. If you are attending a one-time session, a moderator or instructor
may send an email link to you.
2. If you are registered in a course, you can access Blackboard
Collaborate by logging into my.poly.edu and clicking on the link to
the course. From there, your instructor may have a direct link to
Collaborate (Live – BbC) from the course menu or you can go to
Tools to access Blackboard Collaborate.
3. Make sure to join the session 15 - 20 minutes prior to the start.

Once you have launched into a Blackboard Collaborate session:
1. Run the Audio Setup Wizard; test your microphone and speakers
2. You may also need to set up some other preferences:
i. Your proxy settings
ii. Your connection speed, etc.

iii. You can do a Live Chat

While in a Blackboard Collaborate session, you may do the following:
1. Click on the Talk button to speak. The instructor or moderator may choose to turn on Lecture Mode, which disables Talk
for participants during the session.
2. Raise your hand when you have a question or a comment.
3. Participate by responding to Polls and providing feedback to the instructor or moderator.
4. Use Chat to send text messages to other participants and the instructor or moderator during the session.
5. Remember that running other applications on your computer can slow your connection to the session.

Telephone Option:
1. If you do not have a computer to log into the session, you can use your telephone to dial into the session. You will be
provided with a telephone number with a dynamic PIN number you can use to call. This will allow you to speak and listen
during the session. You will not be able to see the content displayed online.
