LIFT PASSES & SNOW SPORT LESSONS
Through the support of the Australian Ski Area’s
Association (ASAA) and Hotham, DWA members
are provided with a 50% concession on a regular
full day lift pass (adult and child) on presentation
of your current valid DWA membership card at
any Hotham ticket office.
This concession applies both to the person with
a disability and a person provideing onsnow

support if needed.
This will contribute to the goal
of providing access for people with disabilities at
the same total price of a single lift pass.
You will need to purchase your lift pass and
present your DWA membership card at any ticket
outlet.
The Hotham Snow Sports Centre has substantial
capability with many instructors available to
deliver adaptive snow sports lessons to people
with all types of disabilities. Their friendly,
enthusiastic, very capable & experienced
instructors can help you advance and develop
your adaptive skiing/riding skills and make your
visit to Hotham that much more enjoyable.
DWA strongly advocates DWA members take
regular lessons to both learn how to properly
and safely ski/ride with the adaptive equipment
and to progress skill development if that is your
goal.
Remember that you can request a DWA
volunteer guide to assist you during your lesson
so that your instructor can focus on delivering
the lesson.
The Hotham Snow Sports Centre is located within the Hotham Central building (opposite side of
Great Alpine Rd to Resort Management office).
It is recommended that you book adaptive
lessons over the phone so that you can discuss
your specific requirements and capabilities
with the Hotham Snow Sports Centre. Hotham
Snow Sports also provides concessional access
to lessons for DWA members at 50% off, please
contact them for more specific information
about these concessions.

HELMETS ARE AVAILABLE TO RENT OR BUY FROM ALL SPORTS EQUIPMENT OUTLETS.
DAY PARKING
If you are coming to the resort for the day you will be required to park in a designated day parking area as located on
the Village Map indicated in BLUE.
Corral Car Park. Suitable for all levels of adaptive snow sports participants. There are two designated disabled parking
bays in the Corral Car Park which is located immediately opposite the Village chairlift and adjacent to the Resort
Management Office. A Transit Lounge with wheelchair accessible toilets is also conveniently located in this building. Access to
the snowfields is approx 50m from the Corral Car Park therefore wheelchair access and assistance with moving personal adaptive
equipment to the snowfields may be required.
If the disabled parking bays are occupied and the remainder of the car park is also full or not suitable for your specific needs,
contact Resort Management and explain your specific requirements. Resort Management will be able to allocate alternative
parking in front of the Snowbird Inn or Zirky’s for you to utilise for the day access. This parking is also located close to the Transit
Lounge and snowfields.
Alternatively, you can use the 15/30 minute parking bays in front of the Snowbird Inn or Zirky’s to off-load your equipment and
yourself then have a companion relocate your vehicle to an alternative day car par further into the village.

Remember all vehicles stopping in a Victorian Alpine Resort must have a
valid authorised Resort Entry Permit. Day, Multi-day and Season Resort Entry Permits
are available through the online system of alpineeasyaccess.com.au, allowing guests to
purchase prior to or immediately upon arrival, alleviating the need to queue at an entry
booth to purchase an Entry Permit, giving you more time on the snow and less time in
your car.

the Ski Patrol who are competent skiers
trained in First Aid, they can be recognised
in a red and black jacket with a White Cross on the back.
It is most important to be fully prepared for skiing and

LONG-TERM/OVERNIGHT PARKING
Suitable for strong intermediate to advanced levels of adaptive snow sports participants. The Loch
Car Park is located adjacent to the Snowmaking reservoir and at the top of the Heavenly Valley ski
area.
Under ordinary conditions, the car park is cleared of snow and there is direct access to the snowfields
from your vehicle.
Whilst there are no designated disabled parking bays within this car park, ordinarily the car park is not
congested.
Important Note: This car park is the highest public car park in Victoria at 1800 meters, it offers
stunning views in a unique location. This also means that the car park is quite exposed to the elements
and regularly subject to high winds and deep snow drifts during or immediately after snow storms.
A small heated public shelter with wheelchair accessible toilets is also conveniently located at the top
of the Heavenly Valley chairlift. DWA has supplied a guest wheel chair within the public area to assist in
gaining entry into the shelter and access the toilets.
If you are staying overnight or for a number of nights in the resort please park in the Long-term/Overnight parking areas
indicated in GREEN on the Village Map. If you arrive late, proceed to the Long-term/Overnight parking areas advising the Night
Village Bus Driver first that you will require transport back to your accommodation.
If you are staying overnight you will need to move your vehicle from the village to a long term car park by 11:00pm.
Overnight / Long Term Parking is for guests staying on the mountain. Parking commences 3km below Hotham Central, towards Omeo.

When you arrive at the resort or are moving from a day car park you can unload your luggage in one of the many 15/30 minute parking

WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE TRANSPORT
If you require wheelchair accessible transport both within the village and for connecting the village and car parking areas then
you will need to book the wheelchair accessible taxi from the Resort Management office. Your valid Resort Entry Permit fees
includes use of this wheelchair accessible taxi so no fees are charged. It is recommended that you provide advance notice to
the RMB advising of approximate time for pickup and your contact detals to minimise any delay. The wheelchair accessible taxi
can accommodate most adaptive ski equipment, if in doubt please check with the Resort Management office.
Shuttle Bus Service (not wheelchair accessible)
A Free Shuttle Bus Service operates throughout the season with a number of bus stops connecting the Village and car parking
areas. This service is not suitable for wheelchair access. The service runs daily from 6:45am until late enabling guests to travel
easily about the resort, from car parks to restaurants to accommodation. Running like a city bus system, buses will stop at all
village stops approximately every 15 minutes between Car Park 12 (Whiskey Flat) and Cark Park 2 (Corral Car Park) opposite
Hotham Central. Just wait at any bus stop and enjoy the ride. Your valid Resort Entry Permit fees include Village Shuttle Bus
transportation so no tickets are required, and bus stops are clearly marked throughout the Resort by signage. Transport users
are reminded that the village shuttle will only stop at designated bus stops. Village Shuttle Buses offer hassle free transportation
and are equipped with exterior ski racks and can carry passengers with skis or snowboards making it easier to get to and from
the ski slopes.

If your vehicle requires diesel fuel, then it is recommended that
you purchase Alpine Diesel which is generally available in towns
on the approach to Mt Hotham (from and including Myrtleford if
approaching via Harrietville or Bruthen if approaching via Omeo).
Fuel pumps will ordinarily be labelled indicating Alpine Diesel.

ADAPTIVE EQUIPMENT
There are 3 wheelchair accessible toilets within the Mt Hotham resort area (note that there are no wheelchair accessible toilets at the
Big D Ski Centre.
Within the public shelter at the top of the Heavenly Valley chairlift.
DWA has supplied a guest wheel chair within the public area to assist
in gaining entry into the shelter and access the toilets. Note that there
is a step into the shelter and this area is generally subject to variable
and often substantial snow levels so assistance may be required
entering the building.
Within the Hotham Central building (opposite side of Great
Alpine Rd to Resort Management office). Enter the building
via Hotham Snow Sports centre doors in the centre of the
building complex, turn right at the corridor, follow approx. 50
meters to wheelchair elevator on right hand side of corridor
(ask for key to elevator at the Guest Service desk if needed),
continue past the Guest Service desk/ticket office, enter
the café located at the end of building where wheelchair
accessible toilets are located. Note, snow conditions can
make access to the building more difficult (eg snow bank
at side of road, soft/deep snow conditions), if you need
assistance entering the building or moving around within
Hotha Central, Guest Serives are happy to assist – just ask at
the Guest Services desk.
DWA is developing a national equipment program to ensure the
resorts and participants have access to specialist adaptive winter sport
equipment. DWA has deployed equipment at each resort based on
anticipated utilisation which is continually re-assessed to maximise
availability and usage.
As a DWA member, skiers and riders have access to this specific
equipment.
Adaptive equipment can be requested by DWA members by
downloading the “DWA Equipment Booking Form 2015 (VIC).pdf “at:

Make sure you use the VIC form for Mt Hotham. The information
you provide within the booking form assist DWA in determining if
the equipment you have requested is appropriate and/or to suggest
alternative equipment. The DWA Equipment Booking Form also
contains an important indemnity that you will need to provide prior to
proceeding with the booking.
After you have completed the form press the “Submit Form” button
and your request will be sent through to DWA. The Resort Services
Coordinator – Hotham will confirm directly back with you to confirm
your booking or for any further clarification.
Use the Hotham Snow Sports centre doors in the centre of the
building complex to access the wheelchair accessible toilets
Hotham Snow Sports Centre also has adaptive equipment available
for use both during lessons and for private use, in the event that DWA
equipment is not available for your particular booking please contact
Hotham Snow Sports Centre to check availability of equipment and to
book.
The equipment is located in the DWA hut (shipping container) adjacent
to the base of the Summit chair lift. Once you have a confirmed
equipment booking number you or your companion will be able to
obtain the key to the DWA hut from the Hotham Snow Sports Centre
located at Hotham Central to gain access to the equipment.
All DWA equipment is clearly and uniquely identified, to avoid the
disappointment of others, please make absolutely sure you are taking
the correct equipment you have booked.

Of particular convenience to people with disabilities is a chain fitting service
which operates at most relevant times on the Great Alpine Road Harrietville
approach during the snow season. There may be a small charge for this service and
note that wheel chains are not available for hire from this service or on mountain and
must be carried before beginning your trip up the mountain

Important - during the declared snow season, DIAMOND PATTERN wheel chains are a mandatory
legal requirement for Mt Hotham and are the only type of wheel chain permitted. You must carry
them, know how to fit them and fit them when directed either by signage or a Road Management
Officer. It is an offence to travel the Great Alpine Road without carrying Diamond Pattern Chains and/or
not fitting them where directed.
Diamond Pattern chains are available for sale or hire from off mountain ski hires, retailers and petrol stations
throughout North East Victoria and Gippsland.

GETTING TO
MOUNT HOTHAM
Two main routes are used to travel to Mount Hotham from
Melbourne. Approach from Sydney or NSW generally is via Albury
Wodonga. The below map provides a summary of these routes with
distances and time frames.
DWA has a growing number of volunteer guides, local to Mt Hotham, who have been
trained by DWA. DWA members can request a guide where extra assistance with on snow
activities is required. Please note however that DWA volunteer guides are not snow sports
instructors and they are not expected to teach/instruct you. Also, all of these guides are
volunteers meaning availability cannot be guaranteed.
The role of the DWA volunteer guide is to support the DWA member with on-snow
activities. Some examples of on-snow support include:
• lift loading / unloading,
• tethering of sit ski to provide additional stability and support on snow so you get more
skiing/riding in.
• enhance your on-snow experience by expanding accessible area’s to you through
“bucketing” through sections of more difficult terrain.
• “bucketing” where the DWA member requires complete support to enjoy the on-snow
experience.
• Audible communication for Visually Impaired DWA members
The DWA volunteer guide can assist you whilst you are out enjoying the snow with your
family and friends.
Whilst the DWA volunteer guide is not a snow sports instructor, DWA guides can be
assisting you with on-snow activities whilst you are participating in a Hotham Snow Sports
lesson allowing your instructor to focus on delivering the lesson. Post lesson, your guide
can reinforce messages and information provided to you from your instructor.
DWA members can request a DWA volunteer guide by downloading the “DWA Snowsport

Make sure you use the VIC form for Mt Hotham. The information you provide within the
booking form assists DWA in determining which volunteer guides will be most suitable for
you. The DWA Snowsport Guide Request Form also contains an important indemnity that
you will need to provide prior to proceeding with the request.
Where DWA volunteer guides are not available at your requested time slots/days, you
do have the option of booking additional Hotham Snow Sports lessons as their fine,well
trained instructors can perform all the function that a guide can provide in addition to
providing you with the lesson.
