LASA WG: 2nd 6 Wks SQR3 Instructions for “Go Forth and Multiply a Lot Less” reading from The Economist (31 October 2009): For each of the subtitled sections in the article, use the SQR3 method and generate at least 2 questions per section. In other words, the minimum number of questions is 8 total. Each question needs to be accompanied by a few notes (1-2 sentences) that provide answers to the questions you developed while reading. The four subsections are: “Lower fertility is changing the world for better” , ”The abandonment hamlet” , “What parents want” , and “The Goldilocks moment”. Your completed SQR3 questions and notes are due on the day of your map quiz. Reminder of what “SQR3” stands for: 1. Survey (briefly skim the content and organization of the reading to get a sense of what it’s about). 2. Question (use key words from the headings/subtitles or the first few sentences of each section to create questions that you hope will be answered as you read). 3. Read (begin reading the material closely and critically, noting down when you do, in fact, find answers to the questions you’ve written, but also take the time to write down other interesting/ important information you’ve learned or discovered as you’ve read). 4. Rehearse (after you’ve completed the reading, take the time to write a summary of each section as you complete it). 5. Review (look over the notes that you’ve taken, and make a note of those questions that you may feel were not answered or whose answers remained unclear).
