Opportunity and Summary of Position Opportunity NYIT is seeking a dynamic and experienced academic leader for the role of Associate Provost for Academic Affairs. Summary of Position Reporting to and working closely with the Provost, the Associate Provost for Academic Affairs will be responsible for ensuring and furthering the mission of NYIT in the areas of faculty affairs, academic support, and assessment. The Role of the Associate Provost for Academic Affairs Contributing to the advancement of the mission of NYIT through the Office of Academic Affairs and representing the Provost with internal and external stakeholders in his absence, the primary responsibilities of the Associate Provost for Academic Affairs at NYIT are: 1 Assist with new degree proposal development, business plans, accreditation and assessment of courses and programs including core curriculum. Lead and promote interdisciplinary programs, scholarship and innovative curriculum development in collaboration with academic deans. Represent and ensure compliance with state and governmental agencies to obtain new program approvals and other required filings. Take a leadership role in developing new and assessing existing policies and procedures within Academic Affairs in relationship to other university policies, the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), state and federal regulations, and trends in higher education. Oversee full-time faculty overload and part-time faculty/adjunct compensations, in accordance with the NYIT faculty union contract . Supports initiatives by academic deans to increase student retention and achieve excellence in scholarship, teaching and service. Assist with Academic Affairs initiatives related to the development and recognition of faculty scholarship and professional development. Other projects assigned by Provost. Additional areas of responsibility include: Oversee annual planning and target achievement of three divisions: Office of the Registrar, NYIT Libraries and the Vocational Independence Program (VIP). Monitor compliance with academic policies and procedures. Opportunities of Leadership In partnership with the Provost and Deans, develop innovative academic programs that are consistent with the institutional mission and meet identified market needs. Support creation and growth of cross-disciplinary degree programs. Collaborate with faculty and external constituents to develop scholarly centers of excellence based on NYIT’s areas of strength. Develop partnerships with corporations and enhance NYIT’s community relations. Collaborate with the Provost and others to implement NYIT’s online strategic plan and expand offering of online programs. 2 Professional Qualifications and Personal Qualities Minimum 6 years of academic experience with higher education administrative experience and experience as a senior-level faculty member with appropriate credentials for faculty rank and tenure is required. Experience in curriculum development and working with faculty and others in the development of new degree program proposals. Well versed in current best practices in higher education, including those related to technology delivery systems. Familiarity with governmental jurisdictions to address NYIT’s global campuses. Understanding of higher education finance and budgets. Experience driving culture change and strengthening culture. Organized, detail-oriented and analytical. Collaborative leadership style that embraces shared decision-making processes. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Strong listening skills. Proactive with the ability to work independently. Scholarship commensurate with rank.
