This benefit is available
to all members with no
frequency limitations.
However, some
providers may have
other appointment

Other services related to
breast health including
ultrasound and needle
biopsies are covered
according to the
member’s current
benefits.
MAMMOGRAPHY MEMO
•
A mammogram is a low dose x-ray
picture of the soft tissue of the breast
used to detect abnormal changes.
•
A mammogram, in addition to a clinical examination, is the most effective
way to detect early breast cancer.
•
In fact, mammography is the single
most beneficial tool for detecting
treatable breast cancer.
•
The American Cancer Society advises
yearly mammograms beginning at the
age of 40. However, for those with a
family history or abnormal breast self
exams (BSE), mammograms should
be considered at an earlier age.

CATCH SOME ZZZZZZZZ’s
Although sleep is an essential part of our everyday lives, many adults do not get
the recommended amount of sleep each night. Not only does sleep allow one’s
body to rejuvenate and recover from a long stressful day, it plays a critical role in
hormone regulation and appetite control.
GHRELIN
LEPTIN
•
•
•
•
Hormone that regulates
metabolism, appetite
control, and calorie
burning.
Alerts the brain when a
person is full.
Levels increase during
restful sleep.
Low levels can cause a
constant feeling of hunger.
•
Hormone that tells the brain
when the body is hungry
and should start storing fat.
•
Levels decrease when a
person is sleeping.
•
Lack of sleep causes excess
ghrelin to be produced.
•
Excess ghrelin increases a
person’s appetite and causes
the body to store calories.
INSULIN
•
Hormone secreted from
the pancreas and is needed
for the proper use of
glucose (blood sugar).
•
People who do not get an
adequate amount of sleep
on a regular basis are not
as sensitive to insulin. This
can lead to insulin
resistance or diabetes.
