Blackboard Learn: Adding Instructors and TAs Office of Distance Education & Educational Technology College of Human Sciences, Iowa State University October, 2011 [ See more tips at http://www.hs.iastate.edu/tips/ ] The course Instructor is the only person who can add other non‐student participants. The method described below is used to add one person at a time and sets the access role of the newly enrolled person. [ ASIDE: If you wish to enroll your students from a registrar list, see http://www.celt.iastate.edu/elearning/?page_id=4679#enroll . ] To add a single user: 1. Expand the “Users and Groups” section of the Course Management menu. 2. Click “Users” 3. a) If you know the person’s ISU netID:  Click “Find Users to Enroll”  Enter the netID in the “Username” box (do NOT click “Browse”)  Set “Role” to the desired access  Verify that Enrollment Availability is “Yes”  Click “Submit” 3. b) If the person has an ISU netID but you are uncertain as to what it is:  Click “Find Users to Enroll”  Click “Browse”  Create a search based on first or last name and “Contains”  Click “Go”  From the list of found matches, checkmark the individual you want to add  Click “Submit” 


Set “Role” to the desired access Verify that Enrollment Availability is “Yes” Click “Submit”. 3. c) If the person you wish to enroll does not have an ISU netID: You will need to create a temporary (“exception”) netID. Go to “Course Management” ii.
Click “Users and Groups” iii.
Click “Users” iv.
Hover in the cell with the person’s last name to make the chevron icon appear. Click the chevron to expand the pull down menu. v.
Select “Change User’s Role in Course.” vi.
Click the radio button for the desired role vii.
Ensure “Availability” equals Yes viii.
Click “Submit”
