Message from the President
and Board Chair
We are fortunate to once again share news of a year filled with hope. We met our strategic
fundraising goal and set records for pounds distributed and volunteer hours contributed. This
is important, for with continued success, tummies are full and pantries are filled.
We are proud to continue to turn each dollar raised into four meals or five pounds of food.
We are thrilled to again be able to say that 96 cents of each dollar we receive goes towards
food distribution. And we need to brag a little about being in the top 6% of charities, earning
the highest 4-star rating from Charity Navigator consecutively for four years in a row. But we
didn't accomplish these goals alone. We are only able to share these positive achievements
because of the support from our generous community.
Our deepest gratitude goes out to everyone who advocated, contributed funds, donated
food and volunteered to help us feed hope this past year. The fight continues and we won't
rest until everyone is fed. We hope you won't either. For every child going to bed with a full
tummy because of the Totes of Hope™ backpack they received, or the warm meal they
ate at Kids Cafe – thank you. For every senior heating their home, taking their medications
and eating a nourishing meal without having to choose one option over another – thank
you. For everyone given peace of mind and nourishment from a community food
cupboard, mobile pantry, soup kitchen or shelter with enough food to share– thank you.
We are grateful to be able to fill this report with remarkable stories. The resilience of those
who receive and the kindness of those who give never cease to amaze us.
Thank you for being a part of this report and we look forward to more success stories in 2014
and beyond.
Warm Regards,
Amy and Kevin

Programs - Nutrition Network
This past year, we are happy to share we’ve distributed more Kids Cafe meals,
more Totes of Hope™ and converted more of our snack sites to meal sites. This
means more kids with full tummies, ready to learn and grow. This offers more
seniors making tough choices an opportunity to have both food and heat,
food and medicine. This means more peace of mind for some of our most
vulnerable neighbors. For everyone who’s helped make these programs a
success, thank you. Your contributions are worth more than you can imagine!

Programs - Mobile Pantry
Mobile pantries bring food
directly to communities where
more help is needed. Our
refrigerated trucks are met by a
team of volunteers who help
with set up and distribution.
Clients receive the food based
on self-declared need and
once the food is distributed, the
volunteers help tear down the
distribution, clean up the area
and our truck comes back to
the food bank.
A typical mobile pantry will
distribute about 7,500 pounds of
food, consisting of 10 – 15 items
including protein, canned goods, fresh produce and dairy. Clients bring their
own bags or boxes and take home the food directly from the mobile pantry
site.
This program is greatly needed and we plan to expand it in the coming year.

Programs - Member Agencies
Whether from a tiny closet in a church
office to a large grocery-style food
distribution center, our member agencies
work tirelessly to ensure hungry men,
women and children in their communities
have enough to eat.
The work they do to lend a hand is truly
incredible, much of it performed by
volunteers, some who have contributed
their time for many years.
Member agencies are the heart and soul
of Fighting Hunger, Feeding Hope, our food
distribution program. These wonderful
partners depend on Food Bank of the
Rockies to help them get the food they need for their programs. They are the
heroes on the front lines of hunger relief. We appreciate all they do to help us
feed our neighbors in need.

Food Bank of the Rockies Endowment
An endowment gift provides for the future needs of Food Bank of the Rockies.
Your gift helps ensure Food Bank of the Rockies will be around to fight hunger
and feed hope for as long as our services are needed.
Denver Investment Advisors manages Food Bank of the Rockies’ endowment
fund. Funds are invested, with the principal of each gift kept intact. The corpus
of the fund now exceeds $1,000,000 and the income from the investment can
be used to:
•Purchase capital needs such as trucks for distribution or improvements to
our buildings;
•Expand or implement a new program that will help us reach those in need,
and;
•Act as a safety net should disaster hit and funding become scarce.
Endowment support could be a one-time gift of cash, a multi-year pledge
and/or a planned gift.

Thank You to Everyone Who Contributed to Our Mission!
To list the names of each contributor to FBR would be a
difcult task. While we’ve only listed those giving us
$1,000 or more in our annual report, please know that all gifts,
no matter how large or small, help us ght hunger and feed
hope!
Each dollar we receive becomes 4 meals for hungry men,
women and children in our community. We appreciate all
our contributors and extend heartfelt gratitude for your gifts
to our neighbors in need.

Our rst year to partner with

us to distribute 174,000 pounds of

November
The Denver Broncos and King
Soopers joined forces to
volunteer at our Montebello
mobile pantry and present a
check to FBR. Their efforts
allowed us to provide 320,000
meals for our neighbors who
needed a little help this year.
We had much to be thankful for!
The 14th Annual Dom and Jane
Mix 100 Charity Marathon
provided more than $1.15
million to help us ght hunger.
The generosity of our community
is truly amazing! A huge thankyou to Dom, Jane, Jeremy and

all our wonderful corporate
partners for once again making
these two days a resounding
success!

December
Natural Grocers hosted Shop-ORama to kick off the 2012 Check
Out Hunger Campaign. The
campaign contributed more
than 140,000 meals to the food
bank. Contributions came from
shoppers and were matched by
Natural Grocers. Thanks to all
our media friends, Natural
Grocers and their shoppers for a
great way to ght hunger during
the holiday season!
Tyson, Lift-Up America and
Kroenke Sports helped us distribute
170,000 pounds of chicken, just in
time for the holidays!
18
January
Parents often contact us asking
how their young children can
volunteer or do something to
give back. Because the
volunteer age in our warehouse
is 14 and up, we decided to
launch something special just
for kids. The Kung Food Fighters
Kids Club ofcially launched
with new mascots - Chop Louie
and Chop Suey, an activity
book, prizes and ideas for kids
to make a difference.
February
It’s with heavy hearts that we
said good-bye to our dear team
member, Victor. Vic passed
away suddenly last February.
His love for family and friends
and passion for giving back
made Vic a man who was
deeply respected and admired.
Victor will not be forgotten by his
food bank family or the
volunteers he worked with so
closely in our reclamation area.
We’ll miss him more than words
can express. Rest in peace dear
friend.

March
The Colorado Agricultural
Community has been so
generous to the food bank for
many years. This past year was
no exception. We received
more than $78,000 in food and
funds from this giving group on
Ag Day at the state capitol.
Derek McKee, a Heritage High
School Senior and rising star
magician, raised awareness for
teen homelessness and hunger
in Denver. He lived downtown
on the 16th Street Mall,
spending 6 nights and 7 days in
a homemade plexiglass box.
His efforts provided nonperishable food for Food Bank of
the Rockies and funds for Little
Red Wagon Foundation.
April
The Colorado Egg Producers
and the Easter Bunny paid a visit
to the food bank, just in time for
the Easter holiday. 280,000 eggs
were donated and kids from a
local preschool were treated to
omelettes, fruit, juice and Easter
treats.

April
We ofcially opened our new
facility in Palisade, Colorado!
The new warehouse is near
Grand Junction and will allow us
to distribute and store more food
for our hungry neighbors on the
Western Slope!
A $100,000 donation from Bellco
allowed us to invest in a
dehydrating room. Our Palisade
facility will now prepare freshly
harvested fruits and veggies
donated by local farmer.
May
The National Association of
Letter Carriers once again
collects food for FBR and other
local feeding programs.
June
Clark, a 6th grader, organized a
"Fun Run" in his neighborhood
and collected over $1,300 for
FBR! This amazing and generous
young man presented his check
at a Kung Food Fighters Kids
Club party.
