Our membership includes food pantries, soup kitchens, senior and child day care, meals-on-wheels, shelters and treatment facilities. These member organizations reported serving over 335,813 people in the year 2007. Our membership provides 78% of our funding from Shared Maintenance fees. The United Way provides 14%, U.S.D.A. provides 5%, local businesses and individuals’ contributions of food, time and money provide the balance of our operational needs. For each $1 contributed, the Food Bank can distribute 8 pounds or $13.52 worth of grocery products back to the community. PURPOSE The Food Bank serves as a clearinghouse for reclaimed and donated grocery products, which may have ended up in some landfill. These products are inspected, repackaged and labeled if necessary before being made available for distribution. These donated products are brought in from all parts of the country for distribution to our membership. NETWORK America’s Second Harvest is a national network of over 250 food banks and food-rescue organizations. As a certified member, we receive allocations of national level donations, operational support, mass mail donor solicitation and grant assistance. There is also a good deal of sharing products with other food banks in this region. SOURCES River Valley Regional Food Bank seeks assistance from all food producers and processors with donations of any unsaleable, outdated or overrun products. Any manufacturer, distributor, wholesaler, retailer or grower who has unsaleable, discontinued, or excess grocery or household products is encouraged to donate these items to the food bank. Individuals, groups or businesses that can donate products, monies or time will be contributing to the elimination of hunger in our area. Any amount of product, money or time donated to the Food Bank will help someone in need.
