Philadelphia
Flower
Show
Sunday, March 2
Tuesday, March 4
The PHS Philadelphia Flower Show is an
annual event at the Pennsylvania Convention
Center in March. It is the world’s
oldest and largest indoor flower show, attracting more than 260,000 people
annually. The Show features large-scale gardens, elaborate landscapes, and overthe-top floral creations.
Visitor Suggestions
First time to the PHS Philadelphia Flower Show? Here are some tips to make the
most of your experience.
Dress for the occasion. There’s a lot to see, so comfortable shoes are a must.
Dress in layers as it can get chilly on the Show floor.
Take notes. Jot down the name of plants you like or the contact information of
exhibitors, or snap a photo of your favorite exhibits.
Identify yourself. If you are a PHS member, bring your Membership ID, which
entitles you to discounts at the Flower Show Store and other retail locations.
Plan the day. Check the schedule of events on the Flower Show App, website, or
upon arrival at the Convention Center. There are lectures, demonstrations,
culinary displays, book signings, and more that you don’t want to miss.
Make a shopping list. The Flower Show is a shopper’s paradise. Think ahead to
spring and what you might want for the months ahead. Throwing a party?
Planning a garden bed? Considering a new hobby? Redecorating a room?
Chances are the things you need can be found on the Show floor.

Bloomsburg
Fair
Tuesday,
September 23
We are inviting you and your family to come with us today
to visit the largest fair in PA. And one of the largest on the
east coast! This week long event has many attractions,
including many different food stands, rides, concerts, and
much more.
It all came about because of the enthusiasm of one man,
Dr. John Taggart. He had visited a county fair in the
northern part of Pennsylvania earlier in the summer.
Impressed by the values to a community of an agricultural
exhibition, he convinced others of the benefits that could
come from such a movement in Columbia County.
Very little is known about the first few years of the fair.
Presumably it began as a one-day production. By 1857, it
was running for two days. In 1858, and continuing until the
late 1870's. It was a three-day fair. About 1878, four days of
the fair were being held. In 1892,
it began operating for five days.

Day One
Start your day out with a wonderful lunch stop at
Farmer’s Wife Restaurant, buffet included. Enjoy a
guided tour of Hershey Theatre. The magnificent
Hershey Theatre was conceived by entrepreneur
and philanthropist Milton S. Hershey in the early
twentieth century. Lancaster architect C. Emlen
Urban drew the plans for the Community Center
Building in 1915; however, it was built between
1929 and 1933 as part of Mr. Hershey's "Great
Building Campaign" of the Great Depression,
which also produced such Hershey
landmarks as the Hotel Hershey,
the Hersheypark Arena, and the
Hershey Stadium. After that, a
stop at Antique Automobile Club of
America. If your into cars, this is
the place for you. After this long day of events,
check into the Cork Factory hotel with dinner
included.
Day Two
Wake up and enjoy a continental breakfast and
head out to Miesse Candies Factory for a guided
tour. Miesse Candies was founded in Lancaster
County, Pennsylvania in 1875. For more than 135
years, they have been dedicated to providing fresh,
quality chocolates to their customers. They use all
natural ingredients, such as pure vanilla, real
butter, and fresh cream, with no added
preservatives. Their rich chocolate is made with
real cocoa butter unlike other
confectionary-based
chocolates. All of their fruits
and nuts are hand-dipped the
old-fashioned way.
Also before heading home,
enjoy a stop at Lil’ Country
Store Amish Quilt and Craft
Shop. We will travel the back
roads of Lancaster with dinner
at an Amish Farm.

Vermont
Tuesday-Thursday,
October 21-23
Day One
Enjoy a great breakfast this morning en route in
Binghamton, NY. After breakfast we will travel to The
Bennington Center For the Arts for a tour of the New
England Covered Bridge Museum. We will also enjoy a
photo stop at Bennington covered bridge, IF TIME
ALLOWS. Discover the history and legends of covered
bridges in the world's only museum dedicated to their
preservation. Explore the exhibits on engineering,
construction, tools, and creators. Build and test your own
bridge designs on the computer work stations after viewing
two video productions on the past and present construction
techniques and uses of covered bridges. A working model
railroad shows the six Vermont railroad bridges while the
museum's interactive kiosk is available to plan your own
tour of Vermont's remaining covered bridges, five of which
are nearby. Finally, marvel at the fine art paintings of
bridges done by Eric Sloane and his analysis of them
before browsing in the museum shop. Lunch will be on your
own in Bennington Village. After lunch we will travel across
the state through the Scenic Valleys to your home for the
two nights at Lake Morey Resort in Fairlee, making a stop
at King Arthur Flour Bakery where you can oversee baking
operations and shop for baking supplies. After arriving at
the hotel, dinner is included at your leisure in the hotel’s
waterfront dining room.
Day Two
After breakfast at the hotel, we are off to Vermont Maple
Sugarhouse in Montpelier, the largest producer of maple
syrup in the U.S. Enjoy a sweet tour of Morse Farm Maple
Sugarworks, complete with a local treat, Sugar-On-Snow.
A Little History: The Morse ancestors who helped settle
Central Vermont were taught how to tap maple trees by
Native Americans. Hot rocks were used to
evaporate the sweet sap until only sugar or
"sinzibukwud" remained. Pioneers could boil
a year's supply of sugar thus making
Americans self-sufficient in sugar production.
We will stop for a photo of the beautiful
Vermont State Capital before travelling to
Barre, VT for a tour of the Rock of Ages Granite Quarry
Museum. After this eventful day, it is back to the hotel
where you will have time to enjoy the resort facilities and
dinner at your leisure.
Day Three
After breakfast we will travel to Quechee (kwee-chee) for a
photo stop at Quechee Gorge Village and then it is off to
