Willard Hotel Celebrates the 100th Anniversary of Mother’s Day with President Woodrow
Wilson House Luncheon, Festivities and Hats-off to Mom InterContinental Photo Contest
Washington DC, April 2, 2014 -- This year marks the 100th anniversary Mother’s Day as a
National Holiday. In 1914 President Woodrow Wilson approved a resolution proclaiming the
second Sunday in May a nationwide observance of Mother’s Day. In celebration of the
Centennial, the Willard InterContinental, where President Wilson visited and initiated the idea of
the League of Nations, presents several festive commemorative offerings including a Mother’s
in their Hats photo contest, Centennial Lunch, Café du Parc, Round Robin Bar specials and a
visit by President Wilson himself!

Flashback Lobby - Guests will enjoy a 1914 ambiance in the hotel’s grand lobby, with
President Wilson himself, courtesy of Madame Tussauds Washington DC; a vintage
floral stand designed by Greenworks offering corsages and bouquets for sale; costumed
people courtesy of Amalgamated Clothing in Alexandria, Virginia and musicians offering
songs reminiscent of the era.

A Mother’s Day Centennial Luncheon - The President Woodrow Wilson House with
support of the Willard InterContinental, offers a luncheon with dessert buffet for $100 p/p
(reduced price for children), to benefit the President’s historic residence in Washington,

Café du Parc -- The hotel’s Franco-American Bistro presents delectable Mother’s Day
centennial à la carte items for lunch and dinner, including Chilled English pea soup, mint
and crème fraiche; Florida Red Snapper, slowly cooked summer vegetables in white
wine and olive oil; Herb encrusted rack of lamb, Mediterranean vegetables medley, Olive
Sauce; Raspberry Macaroon Tart with raspberry sorbet and Chocolate passion fruit bar
with passion fruit coulis. Mothers will receive a complimentary house-made chocolate

Hats off to Mom! Photo Contest at InterContinental Hotels -- The Willard
InterContinental, along with participating InterContinental Hotels & Resorts in North
America, will honor moms by paying homage to an iconic women’s fashion staple – the
women’s fashion hat. On Sunday, May 11th, mothers will be requested to wear their
most fabulous new or vintage hat to brunch or lunch at InterContinental hotel restaurants
to celebrate this special occasion. The mother with the best hat in each hotel will win a
$100 InterContinental restaurant or spa gift certificate. Hats adorned with flamboyant
embellishments including ribbons, flowers and feathers are greatly encouraged. Mothers
will be requested to upload a photo of themselves wearing their hat to a specific social
media channel with a special hashtag (e.g. #HatsOfftoMomsICLA) to enter the
competition. The hotel staff will choose the winner and the mother will be contacted via
social media on Monday, May 12th.

Famed Round Robin Barman Jim Hewes and team tip their hats to motherhood with this
festive Mother's Blush cocktail, celebrating the 100th anniversary of her special day. The
$15 cocktail brings together the fresh seasonal flavors of strawberries, citrus and
sparkling wine, based on the traditional French strawberry aperitif. Mother’s Blush is
