Dear CCNA Students, in order to give our english speaking Master Students the opportunity to receive this information, i will provide you with these details in english. Of course, questions and remarks in german are welcome at any time.
Thanks for your interest in the CCNA program. If you would like to inform about the Cisco CCNA program in general, please visit: http://www.cisco.com/web/learning/le3/le2/le0/le9/learning_certification_type_home.html
To Sum it up the recent Version 4 of the CCNA Course is divided into 4 semesters, each having a major topic:
CCNA1: Network Fundamentals Curriculum
CCNA2: Routing Protocols and Concepts Curriculum
CCNA3: LAN Switching and Wireless Curriculum
CCNA4: Accessing the WAN
The CCNA1 and CCNA2 semesters will be completed by the end of the summer semester. Those of you who would like to continue with CCNA3 and CCNA4 in order to qualify for the official CCNA certification exam will be given this opportunity by the beginning of this winter semester. Thus, the whole course program will run over one year.
Most of the course is based on self learning. The course material for CCNA Exploration is available in
English language only. The learning process consists of reading the curriculum, doing online tests and performing hands on labs or virtual labs. The curriculum is realized as a multimedia flash website which can be accessed either from our self hosted website: http://www.informatik.hs-bremen.de/cisco4/ login: ccisco password: WWW (capital letters!!!)
OR from the CISCO academy connection website, where you will also do all online tests: http://www.cisco.com/web/learning/netacad/index.html
If you choose to take part in the program, please write an email with your Full Name and a valid mail
Address to: till.schleicher@hs-bremen.de
When your accounts are created you will receive an email with your temporary login data for the academy connection website. Please login and complete your profile by generating a username and password. This account will be used for all further Cisco academy activities, so please do not lose your account.
CCNA1 and CCNA2 each consists of 11 modules. For each module you will have to take a short online assessment on the academy connection website, each consisting of several multiple choice questions. Normally there will be 2 exams to do each week. The exams will be activated throughout the whole week from Monday to Sunday so you will be free to choose the time you wish to do the exams.
In order to start an assessment click "take assessment". You will then get a selection of assessments which are currently active. All assessments can be done at home except the final exams for each
CCNA1 and CCNA2 which will be closed book exams in Room 222. Successfully completing the final exam is necessary to complete each course. In order to take a final exam you must complete all chapter tests first.
The online tests will be activated according to this schedule (starting on monday): http://www.informatik.hs-bremen.de/rechnernetze/CCNA/Schedule_CCNA_2011.pdf
Also accessible through the academy connection website is the gradebook, which will show your results in any assessments. Also it will give you the opportunity to see the mistakes you made in the module exams.
In order to get experience with hardware you are encouraged to do the hand on labs, which you can also access from the curriculum. If the network lab 222 is not occupied you can come here and work on your own. Please email me if you plan to use the lab.
A great opportunity to do labs at home is the packet tracer tool, a simulation program which can be used to build, configure and analyze even complex scenarios in the same way as with real hardware.
It can be downloaded from both the hochschule curriculum website and the academy connection website.
Please keep in Mind that that successfully completing the four CCNA courses are the qualification to do the official CCNA certification “640-802”. This certification must be done in a test center of your choice. The Hochschule will not be involved in the official certification process. For the four courses you do at the Hochschule you will receive a short certificate of taking part in the course. These certificates are not a replacement for the official 640-802 certification at a Person VUE Testcenter.
Please feel free to ask any further questions.
Have a lot of fun with the CCNA course ;-)
Regards,
Till Schleicher
