Welcome to Mrs. Ludwig's Newsletter Week of Feb. 27th- March 2nd Up Coming Events and Reminders I Love to Read month reading slips are due on Monday, Feb. 27th. First graders have the goal of reading 100 minutes. Enjoy popping open a good book and reading! We have been practicing math facts at school and we have begun to take timed math fact tests. We will be taking about one per week. We started with math facts +1 and +0’s. As your child passes tests they will progressively cover more additional math fact skills such as double facts, making 10 (__+7=10), doubles +1, etc). Please begin practicing these math facts with your child at home. (Bring your books & Wear your tennis shoes) Skills We Will Be Learning This Week Story: Reading Math Spelling Health/Social Studies/Science The Sleeping Pig Phonics Skill: Long o words with the magic e (bone, nose, home, etc.), long u words with the magic e (cute, huge, cube, etc.), long o words (go, so, yoyo), final clusters (ft, lk, nt) Grammar: Naming words (nouns) for people and animals Comprehension Skill: Story Structure- characters, setting, problem, solution Writing Skill: Writing to Persuade Skills: Review “What’s My Rule?” problems, Introduce the Quarter, Telling Time with Digital Clocks, Using a Reference Book Your child will have 10 spelling words. This week our spelling words will have a long o vowel sound. This week’s spelling words are go, bone, so, nose, home, no, also, woke, by, out. This week’s challenge spelling words are morning, climb, whole, celebrate, watermelon. A great website to use to practice spelling words is www.spellingcity.com Planets with Mrs. Stern Teeth Homework Journals will come home on Wednesday and need to be returned on Monday. Your child's homework will contain a reading and a math section. Only do the pages circled in red. There is more than one week's worth of homework in their journal.
