Microbiology Report Availability
Timeframes for receiving a report are as follows:
Routine C&S

48hrs after specimen is cultured for final report on most specimens

24hrs after specimen is cultured for negative urine cultures

24hrs after specimen is cultured for preliminary report on any culture that is growing a potential
pathogen(s)
Special C&S Requests

3-7 days for final Anaerobe report
Blood Cultures

5 days for final NO GROWTH reports

immediate telephone notification of POSITIVE Blood Cultures as well as written preliminary report
Chlamydia or GC (by DNA-amplification)

2 – 4 days
Ova & Parasites
 5 days
Mycology (Fungal) Culture

3 weeks for NEGATIVE report for dermatophyte examination (skin, hair, nails)

6 weeks for NEGATIVE report for systemic fungi (CSF, body fluids, etc.)

2 months or more for POSITIVE mycology identification

Preliminary reports issued on all significant isolates
Mycobacteria (TB or Acid Fast Bacilli) Smear (tested at BCCDC)

1 week for NEGATIVE report

immediate telephone notification of POSITIVE smear is made as well as a preliminary report
Mycobacteria (TB or Acid Fast Bacilli) Culture (tested at BCCDC)

Immediate telephone notification of POSITIVE smear

SMEAR: 1 week for NEGATIVE report

CULTURE: 8 weeks minimum for NEGATIVE report

Up to 2 months for identification and susceptibility on POSITIVE cultures
Surgical Pathology Report Availability:
Timeframes for receiving a report:

96 hours from receipt of the specimen in the lab
Intra-Operative Consult Reports (Frozen Section) Availability:
Verbal report for Intraoperative Consultation is available 20 minutes from the time the sample is received by the lab. Sample
should be hand-delivered to laboratory staff to ensure the sample is processed immediately.
