PREREQUISITES
1.1
Hardware requirements
1.1.1
CPU
You need a 64-bit Intel or AMD CPU with support for virtualization e.g. an Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU M 540
with 2.53GHz.
1.1.2
Memory
Your Virtual Machine host should have at least 4GB of physical RAM. We recommend setting the VM’s
virtual memory to 3GB.
1.1.3
Hard Disk Space
A minimum 20GB of free HDD space is required.
1.2
Software requirements
1.2.1
For the VM
Operating System capable of running one of the following:
 VMware Workstation 8 or newer
 VMware Player 4 or newer
 VMware Fusion 4 or newer
1.2.2 For the SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio
JDK 1.6.0_07 or higher (x86, 32-bit)

DOWNLOAD THE VMWARE VIRTUAL MACHINE
1. Download the SLES_11_SP1_SAP_Testdrive-1.0.13.tar.bz2 archive, which contains the
Novell SuSe Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP1 VMware Virtual Machine from
http://download.novell.com/Download?buildid=x1e9uCQ4074~
Note:
There is a free registration required for download.
2. Extract the downloaded file to your local machine.

CONFIGURE THE VMWARE VIRTUAL MACHINE BEFORE FIRST START
1. Start the VMware Player and click on File  Open a Virtual Machine and choose the
extracted Virtual Machine’s .vmx file.
2. Edit the Virtual Machine settings and set the memory to 3GB RAM.

START THE VMWARE VIRTUAL MACHINE FOR THE FIRST TIME
1. Now you can start Virtual Machine.
2. Accept the SUSE license agreement. You can press the space bar to page through the License
agreement, or press q to get to the question to accept/reject the EULA.
If you make a mistake and incorrectly press a key other than y or n the question will appear again.
If you decline and press n, the VM image will power off and you can restart it again from the
beginning. The keyboard layout is set to English for the first boot steps. So you have maybe to press
z instead if y.
3. Set English (US) as language (it is very important that English is set as system language) and
choose your preferred keyboard layout.
4. When prompted, enter your network and domain.
a. If you are in a corporate environment, enter a unique hostname and the domain name of
your company e.g. sapnwce73.company.corp. Please leave the fields Change
Hostname via DCHP and Assign hostname to Loopback IP unchecked.
b. If you are in a non-corporate environment e.g. at home, enter a unique hostname and
anything as the domain name of your network e.g. sapnwce73.localdomain. Please
leave the field Change Hostname via DCHP unchecked and check the field Assign
hostname to Loopback IP.
5. Accept the network configuration.
6. On the next screen enter your time zone.
7. When prompted to specify a user name on the login screen, enter root as user and enter
saptestdrive as the password.

INSTALL SAP NETWEAVER COMPOSITION ENVIRONMENT 7.3
1. Download the SAP_NW_CE_7.3_TRIAL_VERSION.rar file and extract it to your local machine.
2. You have to login to the linux VM. Please enter root as user and enter saptestdrive as the
password for the linux VM before you continue. During the next steps please stay logged in with
user root in the VM (do not log off) and shift the VM to the background.
3. Now you have to adjust the VM configuration with your VMware Fusion/Player/Workstation software.
Connect the
SAP_NW_CE_7.3_TRIAL_VERSION\Data\SAP_NW_CE_7.3_SP4_InstallationFiles\SAPNW
CE73_v31.iso file to virtual CD/DVD drive of the running VM.
4. Get back to the VM (still logged in with user root). The auto-run prompt appears on you linux
desktop (inside the VM).
Note:
If the auto-run does not work you can double click the SAPNWCE73_v31 (CD/DVD drive) icon on the
desktop. And choose Open Autorun Prompt and press Run to start the Installation Tool.
5. Choose Run.
6. Continue installation by typing i.
7. Accept the license agreement if you would like to proceed with the installation.
8. The installation is running and creates the necessary SAP Linux users, directories, scripts etc.. The
installation should take about 25-30 minutes to complete depending on your hardware performance.
The VM will reboot automatically after installation.
9. After the reboot please logon with user cesadm and password sapnwce73.
10. Start the SAP system using the SAP System Start shortcut on the desktop.
Note:
If you see the message Firefox can’t establish a connection to the server at
sapnwce73:50013 that is because the SAP WebAS Java is not yet fully started. Wait 3-5 minutes
and that press Refresh or Try Again.
The complete SAP WebAS Java engine start can take 10-20 Minutes depending on your hardware
performance.

GET AND INSTALL A SAP TRIAL LICENSE KEY
1. Open the following website:
https://websmp230.sap-ag.de/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/spn/minisap/minisap.htm
2. Enter your Personal Data.
3. Accept the License Agreement.
4. Enter the System Info as the following:
System ID: Please select CES – SAP NetWeaver 7.3 Composition Environm. (Sybase
ASE/Linux) from the list.
Hardware key (HWID): Please use the Show Hardware-Key shortcut on the desktop to get the
hardware-key.
5. You can install the Trial License Key using the SAP NetWeaver Administrator (nwa). Therefore open
the following URL with your Web Browser:
http://<IP or name of your VM>:50000/nwa
6. Login with the SAP WebAS Java administrator user Administrator with password sapnwce73.
7. Navigate to Configuration  Infrastructure  Licenses  Install from File
and import your license key.

INSTALL THE SAP NETWEAVER DEVELOPER STUDIO
1. For the SAP NWDS you need an installed JDK 1.6.0_07 or higher (x86, 32-bit) on your local PC.
2. You can find the archived SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio here:

3. Extract it to your local machine and start it.
4. To connect to the SAP WebAS Java running in our VM do the following:

Start the SAP NWDS (SapNetweaverDeveloperStudio.exe)
Navigate to Window  Preferences  SAP AS Java
Choose Add
Enter the IP of your VM as Instance Host Name (use Show IP Address shortcut on
desktop to get the IP address)
e. Enter 00 as Instance Number
f. Choose Default as Domain
g. Leave the field Use HTTPS unchecked
h. Press OK
i. Press OK

You can find a reference application in the
SAP_NW_CE_7.3_TRIAL_VERSION\Data\SAP_NW_CE_7.3_SP4_ReferenceApplications\Investm
ent_Approval_Process folder.

WARNING
Before you shut down your Linux VM, you must stop all SAP services and databases correctly. You can do
this from the SAP Web Management Console or SAP System Stop shortcut on the desktop.
The SAP system license is only valid with the compatible Hardware-Key. That means that whenever the
Hardware-Key changed, the SAP system license becomes invalid and the SAP system will stop working after
20 minutes after start. Due to the fact that the Hardware-Key under Linux is depending on the VM’s network
interface MAC address and that MAC address is generated based on the VM’s UUID, the Hardware-Key can
change after moving or copying the VM.
For security reasons you should change all passwords.
