New Employee Orientation Manual Health Information Management Policy: E-05-NEO Page 1 of 2 LSU Health Sciences Center-Shreveport, LA Reviewed: 1/09, 2/13 EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS - MANDATORY Following is a list of educational programs that require your attendance on a one-time basis or on an annual basis. These programs are designed to educate and train you regarding your responsibility and/or involvement in issues related to your assigned job tasks. Your failure to attend these programs when scheduled may result in disciplinary action and/or termination of your employment. Verification of your attendance is documented in your employee file. At the time of attending these programs, you will be given a record of attendance to provide to your immediate supervisor. Upon return to the department, please provide this record of attendance to your supervisor. If you are not notified or scheduled to attend these programs as indicated below, within the first three months of employment, please contact your immediate supervisor. • Hospital-wide Orientation Hospital Orientation orients all new employees on the mission, vision and overall operations, policies and procedures of the facility. Attendance at this program is scheduled at the time of your initial appointment. Attendance is mandatory for all new staff. Your failure to attend this program is reported back to your assigned department. • Campus Education Day All employees shall meet the annual mandatory education requirements of Fire Safety, MSDA, Violence-Free Workplace, Compliance training, and Customer Service by attending the annual mandatory Campus Education Day offered once monthly or by completing online web based training. The specific dates for Campus Education Day are routinely posted in the department and throughout the facility. Training must be completed in the quarter that includes your birthday. • Department Orientation Orientation to your assigned department is provided at the department level on a one-onone basis, by your immediate supervisor or section manager. A copy of your position description should be provided. A skills checklist will be introduced to you. Your daily job tasks should be explained and demonstrated to you. The daily performance levels are discussed and reviewed at this time. This orientation includes a tour of the department, brief tour of the facility, i.e., cafeteria, UPD, Human Resources, etc. Shortly after your initial training, your supervisors will review your competency by completing your level of mastering assigned job tasks. This document will be placed in your employee file. 1 HIM: New Employee Orientation Manual Educational Programs – Mandatory E-05-NEO Page 2 of 2 • Occupational Health An appointment is made at the time of your initial appointment to review your current health status with Occupational Health. It is imperative that you keep this appointment. Your failure to keep this appointment and any scheduled follow-up appointments will be reported to your immediate supervisor. Employment screening tests will be performed. After all tests are completed, a notice is sent back to your assigned department that your health screening has been completed. Annual screening TB tests are required in the month of November. • HIPAA Training All employees are required to receive HIPAA training at or near the time of initial employment. This training is provided on-line and an evaluation must be completed with a passing score to receive credit. Your failure to complete this required course may result in disciplinary action and/or termination of your employment. 2
