Barn Quilts
The history of simple barn decorations date back to the mid-
1800’s as a way to celebrate heritage and bring good fortune. Today, the barn quilt art movement is growing fast as a way to preserve and celebrate agriculture, history and art.
During this class, you will learn more about the art as well as design and complete a 2’x2’ barn quilt. A primed wood board, four paint colors and brushes will be provided. Register early, class size is limited to 10.

Carpenter Star Quilt
When it comes to versatility and ease in quilting, few things can compare to the usefulness of half-square triangles. In this class, we’ll learn to make half-square triangles using this traditional star pattern. With the same pattern, each student will be able to uniquely customize their quilt or wall-hanging. The first night of the class will just be 1 hour to discuss different fabric and size options. Students will then have two weeks to decide on their color scheme and to select their fabric before starting to quilt. This is a quick and easy project that will impress your friends.

Not Your Grandma’s Crochet
Crochet is not just for your grandma any longer! In just two weeks, you will learn the basics and be on your way to turning out useful and beautiful projects. Yarn and a crochet hook will be provided for a supply fee of
$6 to be paid to the instructors the first night of the class. By the end of the second week, students will have made a headband and have the skills to complete other projects.
Even though crochet isn’t just for your grandma, if you’ve inherited some of her yarn, bring it along and we’ll show you how to repurpose it. This is sure to be a fun class so bring a friend.

Hill B & B is a lovely turn of the century Victorian house located just south of
Elwood on Highway 283. With each of the classes, there will be a chance to eat dishes before starting our own preparations. Register early as class sizes are limited on all these classes.
Soups and Salads Soups and salads are much more than just the first course of a meal.
Students will make three different salads and learn how easy it is to make fresh salad dressings.

Guide

DIY: Recycled Planter Box
Learn the basics of wood construction while working on this recycled planter box.
You will have a chance to learn, first hand, how to plan and measure out your project and learn how to use the tools to construct it. You will learn safety measures as you use power tools for cutting and nailing. Because recycled materials will be used for the project, the supply fee will be kept to a minimum with no more than a $15 fee maximum. The Adult Education program includes:
• Adult Basic Education classes for people with skills below the eighth grade.
• English as a Second Language (ESL) classes for people whose first language is not
English; orientations are held quarterly - every three months.
• General Educational Development (GED) classes for people who haven’t completed a
high school diploma or for home-schooled youth. You can earn a Nebraska high school
diploma by successfully completing a series of GED tests.
The Lexington ABE/GED Schedule:
• Register for GED monthly
• $20 fee per program year
• Monday and Tuesday afternoon, Noon-2:30 p.m. or
Monday and Tuesday evenings, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
• Locations: Central Community College – Lexington Center,
1501 Plum Creek Parkway – located in the Dawson County Opportunity Center
English As A Second Language (ESL) Classes:
• ESL orientations are held quarterly – June, September, December and March each
year.
• $20 fee per program year
• Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday – 9 a.m.-Noon
or Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
• Location: Central Community College – Lexington Center,
1501 Plum Creek Parkway which is located in the Dawson
County Opportunity Center
Citizenship Preparation Classes:
• Classes are offered each Fall & Spring - check office for dates
• $20 fee per program year
