Supervisor: Director of the Centre for Continuing Education and International Programs Sub-Dept. : Reviewed by Human Resources Services: Date: (x) Budget No.: Continuing Education and International Programs 9073-224 August 2014 Special project – Full time – September 2014 – August 2016 COORDINATOR, INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS The Coordinator of International Programs, under the authority of the Director of the Centre for Continuing Education and International Programs, is a member of the management team of John Abbott College. Specifically, he or she is responsible for developing and overseeing the College’s international initiatives and the overall management of the auto financed International Programs Office. The Coordinator will travel frequently to recruit international students, initiate and manage educational partnerships abroad and develop new outbound and inbound student and teacher mobility opportunities. The position has been created as a special project to allow the International Programs Office to explore the future direction of its services. JOB DESCRIPTION: Under the supervision of the Director of the Centre for Continuing Education and International Programs, the Coordinator will have the following responsibilities: (1) Provision of Services Assure the provision of the following services: • Promotion and Recruitment of international students into a variety of programs • Management of existing and development of new auto-financed programs; • Development of joint projects with international and Canadian institutions; • Overseeing outbound mobility projects, including risk management procedures • Overseeing the Integration of international students, including registration in appropriate academic and remedial programs, advice on immigration procedures, insurance, homestay program and guidance on other issues as may arise; • On-going liaison with external institutions; • Maintenance of appropriate and timely external communication; • Cultivation of a positive climate for international programs in the College; (2) Community Participation Participate on committees such as the following: • College Management Committee, Academic Management Committee and various other internal committees. Liaise with external associations such as the following: • “Ministère de l’enseignement supérieur, Recherche et Science“, “Ministère de l’Immigration Québec“,“Citizenship and Immigration Canada“,“Fédération des Cégeps“, “Regroupement des collèges du Montréal métropolitain“, Institutes and Colleges Canada, “Cégep International“, and other provincial, national and international organizations concerned with international education. VACANT AUGUST 2014 1 of 2 HUMAN RESOURCES SERVICES JOB DESCRIPTION (3) Administration • • • • • • • • • • Consistent with the goals and objectives of the College, develop the International Programs Office; Develop and recommend to the Director of the Centre for Continuing Education and International Programs goals for the International Programs Office; Evaluate and report on progress toward these goals; Provide liaison with Student Services on issues relevant to international students; Provide liaison with the Admissions Office on issues relevant to international students; Manage the office budget; Meet budget objectives set by the College for the International Programs Office; Manage the resources of the International Programs Office including coordination and evaluation of staff; hiring of consultants, as required; and management of other part-time personnel; Participate in the development and implementation of College policies; Carry out other duties as assigned by the Director of the Centre for Continuing Education and International Programs QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: The successful candidate will have the following minimum qualifications: • • • • • • • • • Master’s degree in a relevant field of study preferred; Five (5) years of related experience; Extensive knowledge of post-secondary education; Cultural openness and ability to work in international teams; Strong communication skills; Experience dealing with external institutions such as government agencies; Ability to lead and motivate teams; Ability to travel internationally; Fluency in English and French – both oral and written. The following additional qualifications are desirable: • • • • • Knowledge of the Quebec College system; Knowledge of Canadian laws and regulations concerning international education Knowledge of recent and future trends in international education; Knowledge of government immigration regulations; Working knowledge of a foreign language, especially Spanish or Mandarin or Portuguese an asset.
