She is active in the movement to stop mountaintop-removal coal mining and its devastating effects on Appalachian land, lives, and water. Ms. Lyon lives with her family in Lexington, Kentucky. About the Illustrator Katherine Tillotson lives with her husband and two dogs in a house on a hill in San Francisco. Accompanying Activities 1. Science: Mystery Box Before reading the book, point out your “mystery box”. Tell the students that it is their job to figure out what is inside by asking questions. Explain that they can only ask questions that can be answered with a “yes” or a “no”.
