A Note From The Weatherford Democrat
Every year we ask our readers to contemplate
the amazement of Parker County’s economy. We
publish a ballot in the Weatherford Democrat,
Parker County Shopper and Aledo Extra
requesting readers to select who they consider the
best of the best among us; from best steak to best
carpet cleaning service to best place to get an oil
change. We usually get a huge response to this
inquiry. This year was a little different. We got more
than a huge response, we got a colossal stack
of ballots brought to the Democrat’s office daily.
We were flooded with mail-in ballots. And, on

top of that, this year we also put the ballot on
weatherforddemocrat.com; the most visited site
in Parker County. In the past we have averaged
about 600 ballots. This year, though, between
the online submissions and the paper ballots, we
shuffled through about 1200. This publication highlights the first through third
place winners in our final tally on October 15th.
The deadline was Oct 9, it took 5 days for an entire
crew of 5 people to count and tally through the
ballots!
We also added a few categories to the survey of
our local businesses. We asked you to name the
Pride of Parker County, which very appropriately,
1st place went to the Parker County Sheriff’s
Posse. We inquired about the most precious gem
of Parker County in a category called “Best Kept
Secret”, which Chandor Gardens won. Although
Chandor is not really a secret to Parker County
residents, it is one of those places we enjoy on the
most special of occasions.
