Job Description Duplin County Schools AIG Teacher Purpose: The Academically and Intellectually Gifted Teacher provides direct and indirect instruction to students, promotes advanced learning opportunities for all students, and collaborates with school personnel to ensure differentiation for all AIG learners is administered. Essential Functions: • Provide direct and indirect instructional services to AIG students who demonstrate a need for differentiation in core subjects • Plan a program of study, employing a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students • Organize enrichment experiences to develop potential within students and enhance the learning experience • Model differentiation strategies • Work closely with teachers and other staff members to integrate AIG services in regular educational settings • Coordinate, administer, and interpret appropriate testing for state identification of AIG students • Facilitate staff development to ensure school staff is aware of best practices for AIG students • Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment materials, and facilities • Follow and implement all Duplin County Schools’ policies and procedures • Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects • Communicate expectations clearly • Evaluate students’ academic and social growth • Keep attendance and grade records as required by the district • Co-teach with other staff members • Participate in the School Improvement Team • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor Accountability Responsibilities • • • • • • • • • • Coordinate BOG, EOGs, NC Final Exams, ACCESS, NCEXTEND 1 Schedule testing accommodations Adhere to the district testing plan and test administration schedules established by the NCDPI and Duplin County Schools Cooperate with district or state officials in the event there is an audit or monitoring visit Attend training sessions sponsored by the school system test coordinator on the policies and procedures for conducting a proper test administration Develop and document in writing a school-wide plan for administering tests under secure conditions Account for and maintain the security of test materials Store test materials in a secure, locked facility Accurately count and distribute test materials required for the test administration at the school before and after each test administration Select test administrators with professional training in education and the state testing program Job Description Duplin County Schools • • • • • • • • • • • • Train all school personnel on the appropriate use of test materials, test security, and the NC Testing Code of Ethics, the Testing With Students with Disabilities publication (as appropriate), and the Guidelines for Testing Students Identified as Limited English Proficient document and published supplements Emphasize to all school personnel that no person may copy, reproduce, or paraphrase the test materials in any manner or for any reason without written permission of the NCDPI Inform personnel that any person who learns of any breach of security, loss of test materials, failure to account for test materials, or any other deviation from required security procedures must immediately report that information Implement the school system’s testing policies and procedures and establish any needed school policies and procedures to ensure all eligible students are tested Encourage a positive atmosphere for the test administration Assign trained proctors to test administrations Allow test materials to be distributed immediately before the test administration Return all test materials to the Director of Testing and Accountability Maintain the confidentiality of individual student scores when reporting test results to the public and media Prohibit the reclassification of students or the assignment of a grade “F” or “I” for the sole purpose of not having students participate in any state assessment Use and follow all procedures in the Online Testing Irregularity Submission System (OTISS) to document and report all testing irregularities Other duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities Needed Extensive knowledge of Common Core and Essential Standards, effective intervention strategies, and best practices Exceptional verbal and written communication skills Excellent interpersonal skills Ability to disaggregate, interpret, and analyze data Ability to effectively collaborate with others Ability to multi-task Ability to work with diverse groups Ability to utilize technology in a meaningful manner Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree Valid Teaching License and AIG certification
