Your topic's description: YOUR TOPIC: Lab Research Report 2: Global Warming: Cause and
Mitigation Due Week 9 and worth 170 points Your Description: Among the most controversial topics in
physical science, global warming has received a great deal of attention during the past decade. Given its
great impacts on both humans and the environment, lawmakers and scientists must weigh heavily the
information that they are presented. Explore this debate in more detail by evaluating both the scientific
basis of this phenomenon and the human role in global warming. Write a three to five (3-5) page paper in
which you: 1. Compare and contrast natural versus anthropogenic climate changes. Include specific
examples of each. 2. Take a position as to whether or not global warming is taking place. Provide three
(3) lines of evidence to support your position. 3. Assess two (2) current mitigation strategies for global
warming, such as carbon sequestration, carbon taxing, clean coal technology, higher fuel efficiency
standards, and so on. Include a discussion on the effectiveness of this mitigation strategy, as well as its
potential costs and policy implications. 4. Speculate what policy changes you would propose to help
stabilize global climate and which business sectors or nations would be held to more strict standards if
you implement your proposed policies. 5. Use at least four (4) quality resources in this assignment. Note:
Wikipedia and similar Websites do not qualify as quality resources. The body of the paper must have intext citations that correspond to the references. Your report must follow these formatting requirements: •
Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides;
citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any
additional instructions. • Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name,
the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not
included in the required assignment page length. The specific course learning outcomes associated with
this assignment are: • Apply concepts in physical sciences to evaluate current trends and issues in the
modern world. • Describe the physical processes influencing climate and weather, including the roles of
natural and anthropogenic activity on climate. • Use technology and information resources to research
issues in physical sciences. • Write clearly and concisely about physical sciences using proper writing
mechanics. Grading for this assignment will be based on answer quality, logic / organization of the paper,
and language and writing skills, using the following rubric. IMPORTANCE NOTES: WRITE THEM ON
YOUR OWN WORDS. IT WILL BE SUBMITING TO TURNITIN ACCOUNT. WRITE MINIMUM 4
SENTENCES FOR EACH PARAGRAPH. EACH PARAGRAPH HAS TO BE 4 SENTENCES.
Your educational level: undergraduate

Global Warming Cause and Mitigation
Introduction
Global warming can be defined as enhance in the earth’s average atmospheric temperatures that
causes parallel changes in climate and that may result from the green house effect. Global
warming is caused by the emission of green house gases, and approximately 72% of the entirely
emitted green house gases are carbon dioxide (CO2).
Discussion
According to the recent research, unbelievable disastrous changes in the environment are
expected to take place if the global temperature further increases up to more than 2 degree
centigrade. Carbon dioxide remains in the atmosphere for 80 to 200 years. A report was
published by an Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in 2007 which is based on
causes and effects of global warming as well as the costs and benefits of solving the problem.
This report was made by the world’s leading climate scientists and it was also approved by more
than 2,500 scientists.
The roles of humans are also very vital in global warming, because people cut down the huge
part of the forest that is used to cover our planet. Plants and trees are used to absorb and store
carbon dioxide and release oxygen, and the process of cutting down the plant and trees are still in
progress and the huge carbon sinks are still being destroyed in most of the parts of the world.
Due to the destruction of plants and forest it creates more carbon dioxide. Humans basically have
everything to do with global warming (Farrar, 2010).

Anthropogenic climate changes means the climate change refers to the production of greenhouse
gases emitted by human activity. Scientists are agreed that the human activities are the biggest
reason to increase the proportion of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere which has skyrocketed
over the past many years. The most effective of the greenhouse gases are carbon dioxide (CO2)
methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O) these gases are the result of anthropogenic climate
change, and they are at the highest levels for over 650,000 years.
Global warming and climate change have an ability to alter biological systems, changes in the
near surface air temperature have also an influence on ecosystem, plants animals, and other
important forms of life. It has been estimated that one fifth to one third of all plant and animal
variety are likely to be at an enlarged risk of disappearance. If the global average surface
temperatures rise another 1.5 to 2.5 degree centigrade than this temperature array falls inside the
scope of the lower emissions scenarios planned by the IPCC. There are many changes occurs due
to the exterior warming temperature for example earlier leaf production by trees, earlier greening
of vegetation, transformed timing of egg laying, and hatching, and also the shifts in the seasonal
migration patterns of birds fishes and other migratory animals.
Global warming also affects the humans because there were many diseases occurs like malaria,
the water is getting mere warmer that will cause increased in hurricanes, a sea level was rising
continuously. Hurricanes and storms are most likely to become very much stronger due to the
hurricane it damages the human property very badly. Animals and plants cannot easily adjust in
the vast change of the environment, due to the increase in the rainfall or snowfall and most of the
animals migrate to the other area. Hurricane Katrina was a famous hurricane that affects the city
of New Orleans, destroying the structure and killing people and many other damages occurs just
because of this hurricane (Houghton, 2004).

A carbon tax is a tax which is imposed on the release of carbon dioxide (CO2) especially it is
mandatory on those industries which are used fossil fuels like electricity production, commercial
residential heating, and transportation etc. The revenue generates from this tax will be used for
the betterment of the society by providing healthy and safe environment.
Coal is the dirtiest form of all fossil fuels, because whenever it burns it produces an emission that
contributes to the global warming. Clean coal technology are used to prevent the insensitive
environmental effects and try to clean the coal by using different technologies.
The mitigation and adaption strategies for global change mainly focused on environment,
economic and energy topics, including global climate change, ecosystems, and sea level rise,
reduction of fresh water and marine fisheries. The primary objective of this strategy is to
contribute in real time policy analysis and development (Hinrichs, 2008).
Conclusion
Global warming is a real threat for a society, due to the increase in the temperature that caused
climatic change rapidly and due to it sea level rises and the threat of hurricane is also increased.
It is a duty for every person that he or she must take part and try to control the pollution as much
as possible and also make sure that the trees and plants had not been cut in any situation.
