Post (Essentials of Geology, by Lutgens & Tarbuck, 11th Edition) Course Objectives: We will study 1) the materials that make up our Earth 2) the dynamic internal and tectonic processes that cause earthquakes and volcanoes and build mountains 3) the surface processes that sculpt Earth’s natural landscape features, constitute natural hazards, and provide water resources. Earth and Environmental Science Student Lounge: Check out the student lounge in Pell Hall, room 129 E. It's a good place for lunch, studying, etc. There is a microwave, coffee pot, and a refrigerator. Quizzes/Exercises: Six to eight short quizzes will be given online in Blackboard. Each will be available online for about one week. See complete quiz policy on Blackboard website. Some short written exercises may also be assigned. Makeup Exams: The Midterm and Final Exams may only be made up with a doctor’s note. Makeup exams are all written (short answer & essay). Academic Integrity: Plagiarism will be dealt with severely. All work presented on exams and written exercises must be your own. Proper quote marks and source citations are required for all words that are not your own. Undergraduate Bulletin Description - ERS 2 Earth Science IIBasic principles of geomorphology (study of landforms) and the use of topographic maps and air photographs in landform interpretation are studied. Minerals, rocks and geological structures are studied as factors in the evolution of surface topography. Not open to students who have already completed Geology 1. May be used to satisfy the requirement for Geology 1 in the Geology or Earth System Science programs. Same as GGR 4. Three hours lecture, three hours laboratory.
