San Beda College Institutional Community Involvement Center Institutional Community Involvement Center (ICIC) is pleased to report that the school COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT component got the highest rating in the recent PAASCU 2015 Survey for the College of Arts and Sciences with a score of 3.6. The ranking has been a consistent mark for the self-survey in which the same area got the highest. This will serve as an inspiration for ICIC to work harder for more tasks ahead including the CAS report for Level 3, institutional accreditation autonomous status, college level status based on CHED CMO 46 and the university status application. All the needed documents should be submitted within the next two months. ICIC developed the CAS community involvement system for its faculty and students by followingan expertise based Business Clinic Program, Psychology Clinic and HEALS or health, environment, advocacies, literacy and spirituality. There are 6 faculty community involvement coordinators taking in charge of projects for our partner communities. The approach has been effective and promising since it followed the integration of the three pillars of the academe: instruction-teaching, research and extension. It is in this context where CHED CMO 46 vertical and horizontal typology is operating. CHED classifies higher educational institutions based on its priorities. If it is only for instruction meaning it develops expertise in certain professions, then it will be called an institute. If the school opted to be called a college, in the said CHED CMO 46 it should apply its knowledge to communities, and there should be quantifiable and qualitative impact results for such engagements. The school relations to communities should be well pronounced and will be a major priority. However, if the institution willgo for university status, the premium will be research, and the knowledge generated in research should be for the benefit of instruction and community. Currently ICIC is preparing for the college status which is to be evaluated by CHED in the soonest possible time. However, ICIC is simultaneously preparing for university requirements through community based researches and strengthening linkages both local and abroad. There is a need for other colleges to step up along with the CAS in order that the institutional autonomous accreditation will be achieved. The College of Law has a strong Legal Aid Bureau with three offices still operating in the main campus in Manila, Quiapo Church and PandacanSinagsa Sais Community Based Legal Aid Clinic. There are on-going plans for the College of Nursing and Medicine and there were efforts exerted by them last summer through a Medical Mission in Mt. Province. The Graduate School of Business had close collaboration with ICIC in terms of donations and relief operations but some works still need to be done in relation to expertise based sharing of resources to actual sites. Graduate School of Law and Liturgy will just need consolidation of reports to identify what service they have rendered to nation and church.
