Violinist LIN HE will make his Carnegie Hall debut during the 2014-2015 season. In January, 2015, he will appear as the soloist with the Louisiana Sinfonietta.
The past season, he made his Rapides Symphony Orchestra debut with the Korngold
Concerto. In January, 2014, he performed in Carnegie Hall for the Children of Syria,
sharing stage with principal players from the Metropolitan Opera, New York Philharmonic, and Philadelphia Orchestra.
As a soloist and chamber musician, violinist Lin He has performed concertos with
the Jiang Su Symphony, the Lake Charles Symphony, and the Tuscarawas Philharmonic. He has also presented recitals at universities across the United States as well as at the East China Normal
University, the Nanjing School of the Arts, the Xi’an Conservatory of Music and the Xinghai Conservatory
of Music. Most recently, he performed solo recitals and gave master classes at Arizona State University, Florida
State University, Pennsylvania State University, SUNY Fredonia, Tulane University and University of North
Texas.
As an orchestral player, Mr. He has performed with the Shanghai Symphony, Rochester Philharmonic and
New World Symphony, and has worked under the direction of Marin Alsop, James Conlon, James DePreist,
Seiji Ozawa, Andre Previn, David Robertson, Christopher Seaman, Leonard Slatkin, Robert Spano, Edo de
Waart, and David Zinman. He is a regular addition to the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra.
Mr. He is now serving as the Associate Professor of Violin at the Louisiana State University School of
Music, Associate concertmaster of the Baton Rouge Symphony and the Vice President of the American String
Teachers Association Louisiana Chapter. During the summer, he teaches at the Sewanee Summer Music Festival and the Alfredo De Saint Malo Festival in Panama City, Panama.
Born in Shanghai, China, Mr. He began his musical training at the age of five. Mr. He received his doctorate from the Eastman School of Music, where he studied under the tutelage of Zvi Zeitlin. Other major
influences include Sylvia Rosenberg and Paul Kantor.
GREGORY SIOLES (Associate Professor of Piano) has been the recipient of
numerous honors and awards including an Atwater Kent Grand Prize and a Fulbright
Scholarship for study in London. He has performed on three continents at such venues
as the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., the Purcell Room on London’s South
Bank, Berlin’s Amerika Haus, and the Shanghai Conservatory of Music in China.
At his London debut in 1983 Sioles was hailed by the London Times as “an exciting pianist … with perfect poise and control.” Following his debut he made recital
appearances in Spain, Germany, Switzerland, and Scotland. He has also performed extensively throughout the
United States and been a featured artist on National Public Radio. Sioles is active as a soloist with orchestras–recently, the Ohio Valley Symphony and the Louisiana Sinfonietta– and as a recitalist. He is also an avid chamber
musician who has collaborated with renowned artists Edgar Meyer, Barry Tuckwell, and the Guarneri String
Quartet, as well as with members of the Baltimore and National Symphonies. Part of the Washington music
scene for well over a decade, Sioles has performed in many of the city’s most important halls from the Kennedy Center and National Gallery of Art, to the Cosmos Club and the Phillips Collection. He has appeared
nearly annually on the Phillips Collection Sunday Concert Series as both recitalist and chamber artist. He also
participated in the Smithsonian’s celebration of the piano’s 300th year, and has given chamber performances
at Strathmore Hall, the French Embassy, and the Corcoran Gallery of Art. In spring of 2008, Sioles toured
Taiwan with bassist Yung-Chiao Wei, where he performed and taught master classes in five major Taiwanese
cities including Kaohsiung and Tapei.
His solo CD on Centaur Records was praised by Fanfare: “The same qualities that make his Clementi
spring to life also illuminate his Schubert–namely, nimble, lucid finger work and a deep affection for the glowing beauty and wisdom of the music”. His new CD (also on Centaur) of French Sonatas with the violinist, Lin
He, was released on January 1, 2010.
