AFUO has over 120 combined years of
experience in uniforms
AFUO responsibilities include developing
patterns, fabricating prototypes, managing
fit and wear tests, analyzing data, and
making recommendations to the AFUB
In 1942, the AFUO was known as the
Personal Equipment Lab
The Air Force adopted new stripes for its
enlisted members in 1948
In January 1948, President Harry S.
Truman approved a new uniform for the
Air Force
The first blue uniforms were not available
for distribution until September 1950
Original blue shade was “heather,” a
combination of 3 shades of blue and 2 of
pearl
The current U.S. Air Force Service Dress
