Mauritius, the jewel of the
Indian Ocean for business
02
The beautiful Mauritian
balancing act
Work hard, live well, and always find time for relaxation. This is what
makes Mauritius one of the most charming and efficient places to do
business, and if you have not yet discovered this Indian Ocean jewel,
it’s high time you do.
Mauritius today is a small paradise island
turned into an Indian Ocean tiger by the
spirit, perseverance and adaptability of its
people. With no natural resources to speak
of, Mauritians realised long ago that
diversification and application were the
two passports to its success.
You do not have to be in Mauritius very
long - half a day should suffice - to appreciate
the open minded approach Mauritians
have to welcoming new enterpreneurs from
overseas. They know exactly how to make
industries and new opportunities work well
in a local context.
It’s the reason so many industries have
travelled here and thrived here, and why
Mauritius remains one of the most rewarding places in the region to visit for
business and for building long term fruitful working relationships.
Whether you first come to Mauritius for
leisure and discover its entrepreneurial
flair, or you come for business and experience Mauritius’ pristine shores and blessed
climate, it doesn’t really matter.
Mauritians have been quick to grasp the
appeal of their beautiful land, and today
there is a profusion of world class beaches
and golf resorts, a thriving stock exchange
and banking sector and a world class information and communication industry. The
visitor is spoiled for choice, both in terms
of where to stay, and who to talk to in order
to beat new business pathways from the
Indian Ocean to the world at large.
Indigo Hotels are ideally located in the heart
of Port Louis, in the Ebene Cybercity and in the
residential village of Port Chambly. With easy
access to the motorway, each Indigo Hotel is
perfect for business and yet within 30 minutes
of everything from leisure centres to golf to
breathtaking beaches to shopping and
sightseeing. There is also the opportunity to
meet and mingle with Mauritians, to discover
delicious Mauritian dishes, and explore an
island full of delightful sights and surprises.
Mauritius as a country and as a state of
mind is the ideal mix of being both business
and leisure. This paradise island has the
balance just right.

Why Mauritius makes
perfect business sense?
Dear Guests and Kestrelflyer Members,
Indigo Hotels is a well-established group
of business hotels in Mauritius for the discerning business traveller. Labourdonnais
Waterfront Hotel, the first born of the cluster,
opened in the capital, Port Louis, on the
Caudan Waterfront in December 1996.
Today, the Labourdonnais is the flagship of our hotel brand. This majestic fivestar hotel overlooking the marina offers
everything a businessman could aspire to
and has become a landmark in Mauritius.
In line with a strategy to diversify its
product, Le Suffren Hotel & Marina
emerged just across the marina in 2004.
We like to refer to this property as a city
resort as it offers a resort feel in the middle
of the city with all the trimmings one
would expect or need to conduct efficient business.
In 2011, the group added to its portfolio a
property strategically located in the heart of
the Cybercity in Ebene, namely the Hennessy
Park Hotel. Le Suffren Apart’hotel was introduced in 2012. The apartments are the first
luxury self-catering apartments on the island,
conveniently located close to Le Suffren Hotel
& Marina. They are designed for business
travellers on a medium to long term stay.
The latest addition to the Indigo portfolio
is the 4-star Address Boutique Hotel in the
residential village of Port Chambly.
Conscious of the well-being and healthy
lifestyle of our guests, we have created I Spa
Fitness & Wellness Clubs at three new venues.
They combine gym and spa treatments to
satisfy the needs of our guests after their
hectic days.
I am pleased and very proud to announce a
partnership with Air Mauritius. Members of
the Kestrelflyer programme will now earn
miles while staying in one of our properties.
Kestrelflyer members will enjoy other facilities
which you will find on the following pages.
Today, the Labourdonnais is the flagship of our hotel brand. This majestic
five-star hotel overlooking the marina
offers everything a businessman could
aspire to and has become a landmark
in Mauritius.
Indigo Hotels is a company that is
continuously striving to improve its products
and services as well as anticipating and exceeding its customers’ needs and expectations. Indigo Hotels are more than just
business hotels, it’s a lifestyle.
The management, staff and I are looking
forward to welcoming you in our properties with the pledge to ensure that your
stay with us will be both a comfortable and
enjoyable one.
Rolph Schmid
Managing Director, Indigo Hotels
Not only renowned
as a prime tourist
destination,
Mauritius is now
also recognised
as a financial centre
of excellence,
combining better
transparency and a
good governance
with low taxes.
On the route to Asia, not far from Africa, lies an
island of opportunities named Mauritius.
Our location makes us one of the best places
to do business in the world, as we are at the heart
of a golden triangle of opportunities between
Asia, the Middle East and Africa. These markets
are sizeable and offer an amazing potential. Our
ultimate goal is to become a catalyst for the
economic development of the region. To help
us achieve this, attracting the best professionals
with their specialised knowledge to our shores
remains one of our priorities.
In addition to this, Mauritius has a proven track
record of success thanks to its strong and open
economy, and has shown remarkable resilience
to external shocks. Not only renowned as a
prime tourist destination, Mauritius is now also
recognised as a financial centre of excellence,
combining better transparency and a good
governance with low taxes. Furthermore, our large
number of professionals in all sectors gives us a
comparative advantage in the region.
It is worth highlighting the fact that FDI has
constantly increased over the years reaching
record levels. In 2012, Moody’s Investor Service
upgraded Mauritius’s rating to Baa1 as a result of
our proven resilience to external shocks.
As an insular state, connectivity remains a
challenge for Mauritius. However, we are investing significant efforts into improving our air links
with the EU and we are gradually broadening
access to Asia and Africa. Moreover, our new
airport is now operational, bringing us closer
to our objective of becoming an airport hub in
the region. It is equally important to mention
that our sea port is already one of the safest and
most efficient in the region. Bunkering operations
have been liberalised in 2013. This gave a huge
boost to the shipping industry and increased
maritime connectivity.
Mauritius has all the ingredients required to
become even more successful. We are determined to go the extra mile and stretch our arms
even wider to welcome our foreign partners.
As testimony of this, we have recently eliminated
visa requirements for 75 countries, including
50 African countries.
Mauritius has always been and will remain a
land of priceless opportunity. The continued participation of high level professionals and quality
foreign investment into the development of our
country is the ultimate key to our progress.

Doing Business
in Mauritius by Board of Investment
Dear Visitor,
You are in Mauritius,
the star and key
of the Indian Ocean,
most probably for
business. Thus why
Mauritius?
Yes, Mauritius has the most enabling
and appealing business environment in
Africa, ensures the rule of law enforced by
an independent judiciary with laws from
the French Code Civil and the British legal
system as well as laws enacted by our
own Parliament, has strong public and
private supporting and collaborative institutions, and a working democracy with a
free press. I am sure you have read about
these. You are now in Mauritius to “kick
the tyres” or to see for yourself if what
you read is actually what prevails. You will
see that indeed, the reality is closely what
www.investmauritius.com
you have read or heard about Mauritius.
But please investigate deeper.
If you take time to observe your surroundings, you cannot fail but notice the
unique qualities of the people of Mauritius.
We, the people born, raised and living in
Mauritius are the main reasons for your
doing business in Mauritius.
We make things happen, we love
our country and we welcome heartedly
foreigners to come to work, live and play
in the country that Mark Twain was quoted
saying following his visit in 1896: “Mauritius
was created first, and then heaven; and that
heaven was copied after Mauritius”.
Today, we are developing a sustainable
economic model that respects both each
individual human being and the environment. Yes we want you to make profit; for
without profit these two previously mentioned goals couldn’t be reached. We call
this conscious capitalism.
Thank you for visiting Mauritius and enjoy
your stay among us.

SSR International Airport:
The new terminal is ready
The new state-of-the-art passenger
terminal at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam
International Airport heralds an increase
in passenger handling capacity from the
present 2.7 million annually to 4 million.
Designed by ADPI, Architects and
Engineers and Alain Davy, Architect, the
project was overseen by Jacques Follain,
CEO of ADPM, the Aéroports de Paris
subsidiary that supervised the project. The
terminal was constructed by the China
State Construction Engineering Corporation at a cost of MUR 11 billion (US 260m).
The new terminal is all set to provide a
significant boost to the Mauritian economy.
“This new terminal effectively doubles
the airport’s capacity and will play a crucial
role in the economic development of
Mauritius. The island wanted a world-class
airport site in order to better fulfil the
demands of its growing tourist industry,”
said M. Follain.
The 56,900m2 terminal has 52 checkin desks, 26 immigration counters,
5 boarding gates, one with A380 Airbus
capacity, 6 baggage claim carousels,
9 telescopic airbridges to form the
largest piece of infrastructure ever built
in Mauritius, according to Aéroports
de Paris.
In line with Mauritius’ progressive sustainability policies, the terminal also features 264 solar panels, rainwater recovery
systems, natural lighting for the public
areas and a host of green spaces.
The SSR International Airport is now set to
become an important player in the regional
aviation sector. Mauritius is ideally located
midway between Asia and Africa, and enjoys
privileged bilateral relationships with most
countries from the two continents of Europe
and Asia. Mauritius is seen as an ideal gateway between these two continents.
The new terminal is connected to the
existing one which will be closed for
refurbishment. Upon completion it will be
integrated to the new Passenger Terminal.
In addition to the new passenger terminal the runway has been extended at a
cost of MUR 1 billion in order to accommodate the Airbus A380 and the new
Boeing Dreamliner.

An evening incorporating four venues is
certainly banqueting beyond the expected.

Indigo nights
W
hen the sun goes down in
Mauritius, it’s time to consider
your many tempting options
for dining and nightlife. Fortunately, if you
are staying in an Indigo hotel, there is a
veritable wealth of choice before you. There
is a wide variety of dishes to choose from as
well as a broad range of international tastes
and textures to explore.
On the waterfront
Indigo’s two Caudan-based hotels, the
majestic Labourdonnais and the contemporary Le Suffren, are the perfect venues
for an evening of good food and relaxed
entertainment. The first question you have
to ask yourself is, what exactly are you in
the mood for? A great way to get things
going is by calling in to the always chilled
and relaxed On The Rocks Lounge Bar
overlooking the Waterfront. Here an
expertly prepared cocktail will help you
decide which of the many restaurants you
really want to try.
At Labourdonnais, choose from the superb
gastronomy of La Rose des Vents, the casual
dining of La Terrasse or the tantalising
‘brasserie’ menu of L’Escale. And don’t forget
Happy Hours every Friday from 5pm to 7pm.
On your way home, call in for a night cap at
Latitude 20˚ or maybe Spinnakers.
In Ebene Cybercity
Backstage Lounge Bar is already
the IN spot in the Cybercity and it’s the
ideal meeting place for business people
who want to forget about work for the
day and enjoy a relaxed evening or a
vibrant start to the week-end. Then there
are some difficult choices to make. Will it
be zen-like Japanese at SushiMe or will
it be the savoury tastes of dishes closer
to home served up by Grain d’SEL. You
will probably need another cocktail or
two to make up your mind. There’s also
the Pizza Bar serving up freshly prepared
wood-fired pizzas.
At Port Chambly
At The Address Boutique Hotel,
Piano Rouge brings things to life after
dark in great style. The inviting terrace
ambience of the restaurants and the bar
allow you to enjoy the sea breeze as the
piano hits just the right note. After an
aperitif or two, explore La Fourchette
with its colourful Mediterranean menu
and Izumi’s authentic Japanese cuisine.
For the convenience of all guests
there is a regular shuttle service running back and forth between both Port
Chambly and Ebene to the capital Port
Louis between 7 a.m and midnight.

Useful contacts
A leisurely time
is guaranteed
A
stay in Mauritius always presents
as many exciting leisure options
as it does business opportunities
for the traveller on a working visit. It’s often
a case of so much choice in so little time.
If you are interested to discover some
of Mauritius’ fascinating history, take the
opportunity to travel back in time at the
Blue Penny Museum on the waterfront
or visit a fully restored sugarcane factory
at L’Aventure du Sucre. In the south-west
of the island, lies the “Coloured Earths
of Chamarel”, one of Mauritius’ most
popular attractions. Getting there is a
delight too as the road is lined with sugar
plantations, growing side by side with
fresh pineapples.
If golf or a vigorous gym workout are
what you want, try a challenging day on an
18-hole golf course with stirring sea and
mountain views. Or simply workout and relax

Port Louis itself is also just waiting to be
discovered with its thriving open-air market, the sights and sounds of Chinatown

about an evening sunset cruise aboard
a luxury catamaran, or trying an all-day

many ways to make the most of your stay.
