Note: At a minimum two questions from each area will be asked during the board.

What is the primary purpose of drill (drill and ceremony)? The purpose of drill is to move a unit from one place to another in an
orderly manner
What are the four rest positions at the halt? Parade rest, Stand at ease, At ease, and Rest
What is the primary value of ceremonies? To render honors, preserve tradition, and to stimulate Esprit de Corps
When marching, who is the only person in a platoon that is never out of step? The person marching the platoon
What command is given to reverse the direction of a march? Rear March
From what position are all stationary movements given? Position of attention
What command is given to revoke an improper preparatory command? As you were, it must be given before the command of
execution is given.
When should the command “AS YOU WERE” be given? After an improper preparatory command is given, but before the
command of execution.
In a company formation how many steps is it from where the first sergeant stands to the first squad? 12 steps
Where is the platoon sergeant in relation to first squad? Three steps in front and centered on first squad
How many steps are there between first and second platoon? Five
On the command of “Open Ranks, March” explain the actions of each squad? First squad takes two 30 inch steps forward; second
squad takes one 30 inch step forward; third squad stands fast; fourth squad takes two 15 inch steps backward
Explain what happens if either the platoon leader or platoon sergeant in absent? The first squad leader moves to the rear of the
platoon and assumes the job of platoon sergeant. First squad assistance squad leader moves to the right and assumes the squad
leaders job.
Explain where the platoon sergeant stands after he/she turns over the platoon to the platoon leader? He/she moves to the rear of
the platoon and centers themselves on the platoon and one 30inch step behind fourth squad.
On the command of “Close Ranks, March” explain the actions each squad? First squad take four 15 inch steps backward; second
squad take two 15 inch steps backward; third squad stands fast; fourth squad take one 30 inch steps forward
When in formation during a promotion ceremony, what command is given to start the promotion? Attention to Orders
Explain the actions you and the members of your squad take once the command “Dress Right, Dress” is given? Each member
except the squad leader turns their head and eyes to the right and aligns with the person to their right. Each member except the left
flank person extends their left arm to shoulder level, raises and fingers extended and joined with the palms facing down

Define “leadership.”? Leadership is the ability to influence others to accomplish a mission in the manner desired by providing
purpose, direction, and motivation.
Define Purpose ? Purpose is the reason for doing what has been requested.
Define Direction ? Direction gives others the knowledge to complete a task.
Define Motivation? Motivation giving others the will to do what has been requested.
Define “Influence” - the power to control or affect others by Authority, persuasion, or example

Define "span of control -” The number of immediate subordinates one commander or leader can effectively control, supervise, or
direct.
What is the purpose of using the chain of command? It ensures that all members are working together as a team to accomplish
their individual tasks and those of the unit.
Explain the difference between the military terms "ranks" and "grade." Rank is the title held by a soldier, while grade is a
letter/number combination.
Define "chain of command. - " The succession of leaders through which authority passes down the ranks.
What are the responsibilities of a team leader? A team leader is responsible for the formation, appearance, training, and discipline
of the team members
What are the five steps in striving for success? It requires motivation, commitment, initiative, responsibility, and a willingness to
face your fears.

1. What are the commands used to put a group in the extended rectangular formation? extend to the left march, arms downward

3. What is the purpose of the initial phase? The purpose of the initial conditioning phase is to establish a safe
starting point for people considering entering the Army.

fundamental movement skills.

Shuttle run, Pull – up or Flex arm hang, and 1 mile run

Why do we honor the U.S. flag? Because the flag is the most notable symbol of our nation

lowering the flag correctly, displaying the flag correctly (day and night and indoors/outdoors), reciting the Pledge of Allegiance,
presenting the flag correctly as member of a color guard, or properly disposing of the flag.
8. What do the stripes on the flag represent and who many are there on the flag? The thirteen red and white stripes represent the first

9. What is the significance of the colors and parts of the U.S. flag? Red stands for hardiness and valor; white represents hope, purity,
and innocence; blue symbolizes reverence to God, loyalty, vigilance, perseverance, and justice. The blue rectangle is called the
"union" and is an emblem for unity.
