DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT COALITION JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: MALE PREVENTION ADVOCATE GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Prevention and Community Education Programs SALARY: $15.00/hr –$16 after completion of Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) SUPERVISOR: Prevention Coordinator/Programs Director STATUS: Non-Exempt 20 hours per week (possibility of increase) QUALIFICATIONS: BA in Social Sciences or equivalent experience working with teens. Knowledge and understanding of domestic violence and sexual assault. Must embrace principles of trauma informed care ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THIS POSITION: A. Ability to work with a team on multiple projects B. Have a reliable means of transportation, valid CA driver’s license and proof of insurance C. Must pass a Livescan D. Possess a Crisis Intervention Training Certificate E. Willingness to attend Green Dot Certificate training F. Excellent oral and written communication skills DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: A. Prevention Program Implementation (Green Dot Bystander Education and Peer to Peer Leadership • Work with faculty and staff at Nevada Union High School (NUHS) to develop Green Dot community • Develop relationships with identified teen leaders at NUHS • Provide Persuasive Speeches for Green Dot and Bystander Training to campus groups each academic semester • Provide Booster Green Dot activities to NUHS community • Work closely with Prevention Coordinator and other Prevention Staff, to plan, develop, and implement prevention and community education activities and presentations • Document all activity 03/20/15 Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Coalition B. Other Prevention • Provide Healthy Relationship Presentations to middle and high school students, as requested • Assist Program Coordinator with Peer to Peer Leadership Club • Attend agency meetings as requested • Review new research, curriculum, and programs in the area of violence prevention and incorporate new information into violence prevention and teen dating violence presentations • Provide prevention and community education presentations as needed • Assist with awareness activities for Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Teen Dating Violence Month and Domestic Violence Awareness Month C. Program Advocate (4hrs.) • Provide phone and in-person counseling to domestic violence and sexual assault survivors at the Client Care Center using trauma informed care principles • Provide occasional counseling to survivors off-site • Provide advocacy and accompaniment to clients at court, social services, hospital and other community based organizations • Provide assistance with temporary restraining order paperwork • Provide crisis intervention including emergency shelter, transportation, food and clothing • Provide appropriate community referrals • Provide housing assistance as needed, including assisting with applications • Complete all required paperwork accurately and on a timely basis • Provide one to one counseling to middle/high school students • Provide Staff coverage on crisis backline on rotating basis . SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: 1. Knowledge of providing services to women, children and men from a trauma informed perspective that includes empowerment, power differentials and gender issues 2. Knowledge of and sensitivity to the unique needs of survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and teen dating violence 3. Strong planning and organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks. 4. Ability to communicate with the public and community agencies 5. Ability to communicate sensitively and without judgment and to abide by agency regulations regarding confidentiality and ethics 6. Ability to use good judgment when reaching decisions and to take responsibility for decisions made. 7. Ability to lead and mentor students 8. Ability to maintain appropriate boundaries with participants 9. Ability to commit to the values and mission of DVSAC. Must possess emotional maturity and stability and be able to role model non-violent behavior in resolving conflicts and exercise appropriate boundaries 10.
